You’ve counted down the days and finally made it to your wedding! While this day is bound to be one of the most memorable times of your life, it may also come with a little dose of wedding drama. Whether it looks like vendor no-shows, hurtful comments, family scuffles, timeline stress, or anything under the sun, it’s important to be prepared for how you’ll handle those situations as they arise.

Rather than letting anyone or anything dampen your special day, takes these six strategies to handle any wedding drama without breaking a sweat.

Delegate

Whether you hire a wedding planner or day-of coordinator (which we highly recommend!) or you put a trusted friend in charge of running the show, make sure to delegate responsibility as much as humanly possible. Your coordinator will oversee the entire wedding day operation; acting as a point-person for each vendor, ensuring you’re sticking close to the timeline, and stopping any sources of wedding drama before they become major issues. As a bride or groom, your one and only job should be to get married and enjoy the celebration.

Work it Out

If you happen to be the anxiety-prone type or have a case of the pre-wedding jitters, make sure to sneak in a workout the morning of your nuptials. Of course, this isn’t the time to push for a personal record, but any relaxing, low-impact exercise like yoga, pilates, or walking can help get your day off on the right foot. Most importantly, a light workout can help calm those wedding drama-inducing nerves and help alleviate your anxiety altogether.

Nourish Yourself

In the chaos of a busy day, it can be easy to forget to eat altogether. Make sure a bridesmaid, family member, or your wedding coordinator reminds you to lightly munch throughout the entire event so you avoid any hangry outbursts that lead to drama. Remember, low blood sugar often makes things seem like it’s spiraling out of control when they’re not. Instead, keep smart, protein-packed snacks close by so you’ll feel balanced and nourished from morning until night.

Smile and Nod

If rude comments of any sort come your way, put into practice the “smile and nod.” Aunt Margaret upset with your choice of an outdoor ceremony? Cousin Karl unhappy with the limited bar? No matter what the dilemma, resist the urge to pick a fight or play into their petty comments. Instead, direct them to your wedding coordinator and simply outsource the drama altogether. Also, keep in mind that heightened nerves sometimes make offhanded comments feel offensive when they weren’t intended to be.

Shake it Off

As scary as it can feel, it’s important to realize that there are too many variables for everything to go 100 percent smooth on your wedding day. Go ahead, breathe it in and accept it. The good news? You’ll most likely be so caught up in the excitement that you won’t even notice or care the tiny things that go wrong. Even if you’re a type-A bride or groom, embrace the idea of rolling with the punches and you’ll be set-up for drama-free festivities.

Remember Why

When you feel any unnecessary drama taking over your day, take a moment to pause and reflect on why you’re getting married in the first place. Sometimes wedding drama like inclement weather, rude guests, or wilted flowers are simply out of our control and the best response is to embrace the perfectly imperfect events of the celebration. Remind yourself to keep things in perspective and focus on the love of your life. Any unwanted wedding drama is simply background noise.
