Zoom Recording in 2023

Jenhandlady, on July 19, 2023 at 9:44 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 2

We have many friends and family who cannot attend in-person so we'd like to do a livestream and recording. One where we would provide a link with passcode so there wouldn't be any potential copyright issues for anything... There are not funds for a professional videographer as most of our wedding is DIY. Is there something we should consider besides Zoom? I see there are monthly prices so we can have up to 300 guests - this would easily accomodate, as the 100 guests it may not and we don't need to skim by on something like this. How long is the recording good for? Can we download the recording and send it to people after our monthly subscription to Zoom is done? Thank you!

I recommend streamyard or similar platform. It's affordable and reliable

Caveat, I don't know whether using Zoom in this way will avoid copyright issues, but Zoom can do what you want. The link that you provide to people is only for the live meeting room, not to the recording itself, so the only way to share the recording with people after the fact is to download it and upload it elsewhere. The recording stays on the cloud for 7 days with a free subscription, but it could be longer with a pro license.

If you decide to go with Zoom, I'd suggest delegating someone to be in charge of it. They'll need to start and stop the recording as Zoom doesn't record by default. You'll also probably want to mute everyone's audio and video when they enter the meeting room and keep them muted throughout - that way a barking dog in someone's background won't override the audio for your ceremony for the other virtual guests. I also think that you should mute the speaker on your device so that the same barking dog won't come through the computer during your ceremony.
