Zika-free honeymoon

Sarah, on December 28, 2017 at 5:54 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 8

We started talking about our honeymoon on the weekend. FH said that he was taking over at least the narrowing down options side of it and I was so happy and relieved!! Unfortunately he failed to take zika and the weather into his calculations so two of his suggestions (Maldives, Japan) fell away right away. We live in Germany and his other two suggestions were US east or west coast but as an Australian the US doesn't feel "different" or "special" enough for me to want to make it our honeymoon destination. I'd like to see it one day but traipsing around cities doesn't really appeal to me as our honeymoon.

I'd love to do the typical 'lying on the beach' thing but it seems like basically everywhere tropical has a risk of zika, and as we'll be TTC right away obviously those are out of the question. I think FH is less keen on just lying on the beach so I was thinking a Greek island could be an option - plenty of beach but also culture. I've been to Greece before though (FH hasn't) but only to Crete and there are a whoooole lot more islands.

Does anyone have any magical zika-free tropical destinations or any other ideas for us? We're planning on going at the end of July/start of August.

Quick facts:
- we live in Germany
- I come from Australia
- We're travelling to Australia in October for my brother's wedding so don't want anything too much in that direction (NZ, Fiji etc)
- I've already seen a lot of Europe

    Azores?
carribean area however places like Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico etc got hit hard by Hurricane. Key west FL? It’s america but tropical. Don’t think Zika is a risk.

P laces like Cancun Cozumel Etc are MX but very Americanized as well but still tropical. Only there to worry about is the Mexican drug cartel. I live near MX and it’s been advised since 2009 not to visit. many ppl still do though.

    Morocco
    Mozambique
    Turkey
    Hawaiian islands
    Dubai
    oman
    Azores
    Mallorca or Menorca

I think all these locations have relatively good weather in July and August. They should be Zika free. I am not sure if they fit your magical criteria.

If you want additional assistance I would recommend posting on a travel forum like TripAdvisor.

We are in the same boat (except we are from the US, so wanting to go somewhere else) The Caribbean is a no go, Zika risk is everywhere down there. We decided on a cruise of the Mediterranean.

Hawaii and Bermuda are both Zika free, and beautiful beach destinations!

Also, Cape Cod (Massachusetts) and the Islands (Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket) are gorgeous that time of year! There’s also Block Island (Rhode Island) which is beautiful in the summer!

    Thank you everyone!

@Heather: although that didn't help with not wanting to go to the US for our honeymoon, I finally understand why there was merchandise for Martha's Vineyard in Gilmore Girls... I thought it was just a vineyard, now I learn it's an island! And Nantucket too! All these things making sense to me after all this time Smiley winking

We did Bermuda for that exact reason. Zika free and we did Hawaii the year before for the same reason.

Same issue here, we were originally going to Bali but couldn’t cause of Zika. We are going to Greece (Santorini and Mykonos) instead
