So, we live in Texas, but we are sort of doing a kind of “planned elopement”. I’m not sure what the best option is here as far as making our marriage legal. Should we go ahead and get married in our stare at the courthouse and then have a beach ceremony in Gulf Shores, AL? I’d rather not do that, but I’m scared to death that something is going to go wrong. We’re planning on having our ceremony on vacation so I don’t want to be worried or stressed trying to figure out what to do. What do people normally do in this type of situation? Am I just a dummy for not knowing?? I’m looking into elopement services in the area now, but not getting a lot of direct info!

We're getting married out of the country. We're going to do a legal ceremony with an ordained friend a couple of days before we go and then just have a symbolic ceremony in Greece. We will celebrate our Greek ceremony as our anniversary even though it won't be our "true" wedding date.

I would check with both cities. Some county have a waiting period before the actual wedding day. And it’s all about where do you your marriage legally filed/acknowledge.
We had a destination wedding so we decided to file in that city.

I know it varies state to state, but our marriage license is "good" for 60 days. So we picked it up and can sign it anytime within those 60 days. In theory, you could get your license, take it with you, sign it on your actual wedding day, and then bring it back with you to file it. Just check with your specific state!

So we're actually going through Simply Eloped - not only do they provide someone actually ordained to perform the ceremony, but that person files the marriage license for you and they send you a guide on what you need to know about getting married where you're getting married. They don't offer Gulf Shores as a location, BUT I have a feeling you can find some sort of elopement company or local officiant that could help you navigate the differences!

We're doing a destination wedding in California, and we'll have to go pick up a marriage license from the county courthouse in California in the days leading up to the wedding. But because we researched it beforehand, we knew that before we booked our flights and are going a few days early! I also have calendar reminders to book a marriage license appointment once they open 2 months out.

All that being said, Google something like "Gulf Shores elopement" and I'm sure there will be a blog post with all the details you need!
