Writer’s block

MaryElena, on July 7, 2021 at 3:24 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4
Hi everyone!

Has anyone else struggled with writer’s block while writing your vows? I want to avoid sounding cliché or phony. I want them to be extremely genuine. I have so many drafts and it’s a bit overwhelming.
Any tips?
Best wishes to all summer 2021 brides!

I’ve had writer’s block (not about vows). What worked for me was to get my body moving. If I couldn’t move, to switch to a task that has nothing to do with the writing to give your brain a reset.
    Good luck!

To start, I would suggest NOT worrying about sounding cliche. That can be a cause of writer's block if you're overly concerned about what not to say. Whatever comes to mind, just get it out on paper. (And no matter what, these thoughts will be genuine, not phony!) Once you've got a draft down, then go back and edit out anything you feel is too cliche. Good luck!

Yeah, it took me 6 drafts lol. And I really liked my first draft but it didn't feel totally genuine. I just went through each one and decided which parts were genuine and pieced it all together! I'm a systematic writer though, so I kind of knew it wouldn't work for me to just sit down and write them and have it be one and done. Good luck!
