Would you move on in your vendor search?

Amber, on November 20, 2020 at 11:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
I contacted an officiant from Wedding Wire that had good reviews, has worked at our venue before, and offered $100 off for winter weddings. He responded and I filled out and sent back his questionnaire the next day. We set up a google meeting for last Wednesday at 6pm. I got home a little late the day of and was trying to have dinner first and asked if we could push it back 15 minutes at around 5:30. He said that was no problem and said 6:30 would be fine to give us enough time. We tried to join the meeting at 6:30 but he never joined or responded. The next day he said he lost power shortly after our last message and that his phone doesn’t get good reception (not aware of any major storms or massive power outages in the state that day). But we decided to reschedule the same time the following Wednesday and we tried to join the meeting but never heard from him. I just got a message today that he was in the hospital with his wife because of COVID and that his phone was dead. I understand this year has been difficult and you don’t know what’s going to happen with COVID. But I still want to be sure I hire professional vendors, would you move on?

I personally do not have the patience for that so I would move on.

I personally would probably give him one more chance, especially with everything going on. Regardless of whether I met with him or not, I would still meet with 2-3 officiants total so that I have a few different options to consider. I suggest trying to setup one more meeting with him, but also setup meetings with 1-2 other officiants so you and your fiance can discuss your options. If the third attempt at meeting doesn't work out, then I would move on for sure.

I would contact other officiants. I'm not saying rule him out yet, but definitely have a backup plan because right now he is seeming unreliable.

I agree with Lisa. Things are hectic right now so I think patience is def. a virtue with planning. Give him one more chance, then if that sinks then move on. Have some backups on standby that you would like just as well as this one.

    Good luck!

I would move on. Once, fine. Twice, nope!

If he reached out to you to explain why he blew off the meetings (vs you having to track him down) I would give him one more chance. Sometimes weird things do happen. But if you schedule a third meeting and he misses the meeting or it otherwise doesn't feel like I good fit, then I wouldn't hesitate to look elsewhere.

Agree with this 100%, not sure what area you are in but if thumbtack is available there you can search for officiants there. I found mine there and interacted with a few other ones.

Truthfully, I’m not sure I would believe his excuses. While I am not in health care (therefore not 100% certain of this) I was under the impression Covid patients are unable to have visitors. I’d look into other officiants!
