Worst Nightmare came true!!!

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG ....... The venue coordinator that took our deposit and signed the contract for our wedding event NEVER PUT IT ON THE CALENDAR!!! Smiley cry

I booked our venue last year for our 2023 wedding. I sent an email last week just checking in and to ask a few questions..... and I received an email back yesterday from a woman who said "Christine" was no longer in their employ and to call them asap.

I am heartbroken. I can not believe this happened. My FH and I went up to bring all our paperwork, cancelled check, etc. "Tammy" was very sympathetic and unfortunately also new to the venue (3 months) and told us she inherited a disaster. What is making this so unbelievable is that the venue is going under major renovations starting in January, so even if they COULD do our wedding, who knows what stage construction they will be in next May? Besides all this, Tammy indicated that the venue does not guarantee the food pricing. WHAT?? Isn't that what a contract is for?? WHO in their right mind would book an event not knowing what the final cost would be?

I am now running around scrambling to find a place that is as nice as where we were going to be at the price point we had locked in. I am beyond angry.

Thanks for the shoulder to cry on. Hoping we can be successful .... bless my FH trying to lighten the mood "Well, Chuckee Cheese is always fun".

    So sorry to hear that. My sister had her venue close as in forever a few months before her wedding and they wouldnt "refund" her deposit instead they sent it to certain other venues and she had to choose from those and hope they had her date. It was a nightmare

    I am so sorry to hear about that!

    With the rise in most food products, the food comment does make somewhat sense to me. My venue told me that due to the cost of crab, we may either have to switch from crab cakes to a different seafood option, or pay additional.

    This sounds like a nightmare! But I'm glad your FH has a good sense of humor. That's the only way to get through this. I hope you find a place within your budget and still fits what you were imagining - and if not, I hope you find something that is another version of the same dream. It'll work out!

    That's awful! Hopefully with a year in advance there'll be something you like available! Did they at least refund your deposit?

    Oh no Pat! So sorry to hear this happened to you!! I would definitely ask for the deposit back. I am sure they can return it to you seeing it was an error on their end. I hope you’re able to find another venue that you both like.

    Thanks Gloria, and everyone else that responded. It has been a whirlwind day, but it looks like we may have a new venue!! It might take a bit of number crunching, but I will still get my water view wedding. We go meet everyone (caterer, planner and venue) next Thursday. 🤞🤞

    Thank you again everyone! This is the venue we are going to on Thursday. 🤞🤞 Hoping we can get the numbers within budget. My most lovable FH has already said we are booking, no matter the cost. I'm a bit more frugal, so we shall see.

    Good luck on Thursday! Those photos are promising. At least now you know all the right questions to ask before signing your contract...

    What a nightmare!! But I believe things always work out the way they should. The new venue looks gorgeous! Make sure the old place refunds your deposit and leave reviews about their extremely unprofessional handling of this mess. Good luck!

    It is gorgeous, and just what I want. The caterer is redoing the proposal with the changes we discussed so I am hoping it comes today. We have another appointment at a place called The Beach House. It is also a beautiful venue, but it is further away from us. But, it will be a good comparison to Thursday visit. Everyone is holding our date until next Friday, so at least the pressure is off me to make a decision NOW.
