Worried about dress after alterations

Ku, on April 30, 2024 at 7:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
Hi everyone! Hoping I’m not alone and everything will turn out ok. I’m getting married in 56 days and just dropped my dress off at the seamstress. The first picture is in the store and why I fell in love. It was a 10, and I ordered a 12 because it was just a little snug. I kept telling myself the alterations will make it perfect, but I was not happy after the first appointment. It looks much larger than the 10 even after pinning and I don’t know what to do. Taking it in in the chest is going to be tough because it is backless. Any advice?? They look like two different dresses! It’s like when you plan an outfit in your head but try it on and it’s not as cute as you thought.Worried about dress after alterations 1

We had to bring the straps up because they were too long, but it also brought up the neck line, which I’m also worried about.

The initial stages of the alterations would tend to only get the basic shape closer. It happens pretty often that the initial steps don't look right. that is why you usually return for some follow up alterations. If you seamstress is qualified, it will turn out well. As to the neckline, no one will notice that it is a little higher now.

Tell your seamstress you want to keep the neckline where it is and you don't want to pull up the straps and cram your underarms. It almost looks like there's too much skirt? Maybe she can fix or add pleats as well. You should be getting 3 alteration appointments minimum to get the fit right. Don't be deterred, just speak up and see if she can fix it. If not, it may be best to get someone else.

I am going back for a second try on, but she has the dress now. She said if I want to change anything else she would do it that night. But I had to ask for a second try on. I’m not sure when she’ll be done with it. She was going to call me. I’m afraid I’m going to run out of time.

You definitely have time to modify to your tastes or to find a new seamstress. Best wishes.
