Will the bride stand on the left side?

Maren, on January 15, 2019 at 11:05 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 89

Traditionally, the bride stands on the left side of the altar for the wedding ceremony so that the groom can use his right hand in case he needs to fight for his bride, should someone try to steal her away last minute on the wedding day! Thankfully the kidnapping part of this tradition died long long ago, but brides still keep up the tradition of standing on the left side.

Which side are you going to stand on for your wedding ceremony? Are you doing or ditching this tradition?

If you’re a same-sex couple, how are you deciding which side to stand on?

Thank you, next (tradition): Are you ditching the traditional wedding party?

Back to the beginning: Which wedding traditions are you ditching?

Lol! Love the background story. I had no idea. We kept this but didn’t realize it was tradition.

I didn’t know that it was a tradition for the bride to stand on the left and the groom on the right we are definitely keeping it like that.

Hahaha cute backstory. You learn something new every day. I don't have anything against standing on the left so we can keep this tradition!

That's great, Danielle! Smiley smile Yes, it's a super sweet history behind it! Smiley heart What will the backdrop of your ceremony be, as you stand at the front and say "I do"? Smiley heart

Our venue is a "barn" type building out in the country. I haven't decided yet where the ceremony will take place, but it will be out doors and the reception indoors (same location). Our backdrop will more than likely be woods or a large white house on the property.

.....Will the bride stand on the left side? 2

I stood on the right. I'm half Jewish and it's tradition to stand on the right. It's also my better side.

Lol. It wasn't really thought about, but we'll keep it. Knowing this now, if my fh was a leftie, I'd make him switch to the left.

I've not thought about this are all. I'm assuming I'll end up standing on the left as it's what the coordinator will be used to and I don't have strong feelings either way.

It depends on how I part my hair tbh! I don’t want my hair to be in my face for the pictures.

Ha! This is funny. This is Ricks reasoning for keeping me on his left. He’s right handed so in case he needs to take care of business LOL !!

I've never actually heard of this tradition before let alone that back story! I haven't given it any thought on which side I'll stand so I have no clue right now haha.
