Why it’s important to have a great seamstress!

Rachel, on June 3, 2022 at 1:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 13
Hi, Everyone!

Just thought I’d show how much a good seamstress makes a difference…the pic on the left is at my first fitting consultation after I’d picked my gown up from the bridal salon…needless to say, the bodice definitely was too baggy/wrinkly and it really didn’t do my figure justice (it fit much differently than the one at the appointment fit - no surprise). After 3-4 fitting appointments, my seamstress got my gown to fit me like a glove and made me feel soooo beautiful. My point is - if your gown fits a little differently than the sample you tried on and ordered, don’t despair because investing in a bomb seamstress can make you look 🔥!! 23 days to go!!!Why it’s important to have a great seamstress! 1

Your gown looks wonderful! Good seamstresses are truly magicians!

I have to remind myself of this so often. The straps on my dress need to be shortened because the low back on the dress is currently, uh, "not church appropriate" (lol), the neckline needs to come up, and the whole thing needs to be taken in a bit. I know that'll all be handled by alterations, but MAN is it anxiety-inducing waiting for that time to come.

I echo this! Had the same problem. The only thing is I picked up my gown 3 days before the wedding and ended up losing weight again so I still experienced the baggie as a bit. It was fine I only wore my gown 4 hours before changing into my other ones. But yea the expense of a good seamstress is everything.

Of course!! You’re welcome! Something I had to remind myself of also is the sample I tried on when I bought my gown had been tried on a few times before by other brides so of course it was more stretched out/“worn in” than a freshly made gown that’s only for US. I was worried about how my seamstress would make it work but she has the natural “eye”! She was noticing when one side of the dress looked a little more “let out” than the other side and fixed that up, and then made sure to double check that the cups we added in weren’t visible from any angles… she is truly a master of her craft!!!

I know exactly how you feel!! I was really nervous about what my seamstress would suggest and what I wanted but she was so willing to do whatever it took to make me happy and feel the most beautiful. Trust the seamstress, she will know what to do! She was noticing things about my gown that I didn’t even think of or notice to slightly fix or tweak… she was awesome!!

My dress comes with cups. Did yours and you added extra?

This may be TMI, but I always buy bras with "petals".

So, I'm wondering if I need to add cups to my dress?

Guess I'll talk to my seamstress about that.

    Maybe bring her a bra?!?!

So my dress had very thin cups in it and they didn’t really provide much “oomf”, so I requested that she add cups in. She had a couple of different styles for me to try which I tucked into the top to see how they fit, etc. so it was up to me to pick which ones I liked. I didn’t want ones that were ultra-padded to the point where I looked like I had way too much and I’ve seen some gowns where too-thick cups were added and that caused a “shelf” look underneath the breast area! When I tried on my dress at each fitting, I just put pasties on so I could see my natural fit/breast look and how much I “fill out” the bodice, etc. that helped me decided on whether or not I wanted extra cups added in and how much padding. Hope that helps!?

Also!!! Here is a side-by-side comparison of what my dress looks like both before and after the added cups. The shot on the left is just me all natural and with the cups that came in the dress (not a lot of lift IMO), and the pic on the right is from my latest fitting that had my additional cups sewn in… I can see a major difference in the shape and lift!! Also I should add that I’m only a B cup so having extra cups did me some favors for shape! 😂😂😂
