Wholesale/Discount Alcohol in the DC/DMV area?

FutureMrsN, on October 27, 2017 at 3:19 PM Posted in District of Columbia Planning 0 12

Our wedding venue allows us to bring our own alcohol for the bar, provided we use their bartenders. We would like to get a decent deal on wholesale if possible so we can do nice variety. Besides Costco, does anyone have any recommendations in the DC area? We are specifically looking for places that you can return unopened bottles. Thanks!

Total wine & spirits in Alexandria could probably help. I heard they will take back unopened alcohol.

A friend with a private club uses Capitol Liquor. They will allow you to return unopened bottles afterward.

I'd price it out too... after I'd priced out the liquor we'd want; it was slightly cheaper (maybe $500) than the caterer providing the bar, which to me, wasn't worth the extra hassle of having to buy and deliver everything

Then again, you'd probably save more returning unopened bottles. I did that at Corridor Liquors (now Total Wine) in Laurel once for an event I helped plan

Mt Airy Liquor does this, that's who we are using. I can't advise on prices since we are still too far out to order.

We did this. For liquor, Montgomery County (MD) Wine and Spirits stores typically have the lowest prices. They have coupons, sales, and bulk discounts. Total Wine has the best selection on wine and also puts out coupons, and I think has case discounts. Both chains, and the VA ABC stores, have online inventory and pricing, so you can comparison shop before you go. We've found beer pricing to vary a lot, depending on how specific you are on brands.

Funny I just made a post about buying our own alcohol, and we are also in the DC area, and if we can figure out the logistics of how we would get it to our reception location this would be our next step, so I'm following this thread and writing these down haha. Total Wine and Costco were our initial thoughts

Check out Ace Liquors. They have multiple locations in the DMV area and allow return of unopened bottles.

We're using Ace Beverage in the Foxhall area and they buy back after. They've been very helpful with estimating - caterer have is specialty drink ideas, passed that to Ace and they have us estimates letting us add more or less of whatever liquor.
