Who pays for what ??

So my fiancé’s family and my family both agree that the brides family pays for a good chunk of the wedding. However, my FIL believe that they don’t have to help with ANYTHING at all. My parents don’t come from money by any means but are being generous enough to offer to cover 80-85% of wedding costs. However; my mom believes that since it’s mostly my fiancé’s side of the family coming they should offer to at least pay for flowers or help with food costs. I’m not sure how to navigate this and it has started some disagreements with my fiancé. Any tips on how to navigate my parents not starting a war with my FIL about not helping with weddings costs. Also to add, my fiancé’s family is very well off.

Honestly no one is obligated to pay for anything. It's nice that you're parents want to pay for your wedding, but they shouldn't be expecting anyone else to as well. For my first wedding, my parents paid for mostly everything and my fiance's family didn't pay for anything. Traditionally I think the fiance's parents just pay for the rehearsal dinner and flowers. I would let your parents know that your fiance's parents aren't obligated to pay for anything no matter how much they make.

This can be a tricky situation to navigate, because despite tradition - no one is obligated to pay for anything wedding related!! Nowadays most couples pay for the wedding themselves, but it's always appreciated if either family wants to chip in!

Here's a great article you can check out with details on traditional payment details:
