Who do you pick as a personal attendant?

Taylor, on February 10, 2020 at 2:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hi! My wedding is fast approaching, and I'm on the fence about whether or not we should hire a day-of coordinator, or have someone we know as a personal attendant help us out. Is a personal attendant supposed to be a close friend, a family member, acquaintance? Do any of you have recommendations on hiring aday-of coordinator vs having someone you know be a personal attendant? Thanks!

Personal attendants, on my opinion, are outdated and super rude. You’re comparing a personal attendant to a day of coordinator who makes hundreds or even thousands of dollars. I think that’s your answer.

I would never ask a friend or relative to be my “assistant” that would make me super uncomfortable. I wouldn’t want any of my guests to feel like they’re working my wedding!

I would hire someone to be your DOC. I wouldn't give a friend or family member a job on your wedding day.

I have my younger sisters as my personal attendants!

They were eager to do something (especially since I have 4 younger siblings, 1 of whom is a bridesmaid lol) and so I just gave them the title. They really won't be doing much.

I tasked my one sister with making sure I don't get seen by FH and making sure that everything pre-ceremony is going as scheduled.

My other sister LOVES organization so I'm making a bunch of lists for her to check things off of so she's excited about that!

My last younger sister is too young to really be involved so she'll just be there as moral support while I'm getting ready!

At my friends wedding, her personal attendants just made sure that everything was set up and then handed out their programs! Smiley smile

Well, and that's part of the reason why I'm contemplating having someone I know do it. Coordinators can get really pricey, and I have a lot of family and friends asking what they can do to help!

At weddings that I have been to, they are basically just there for the bride to make sure things go smoothly and do any running around if something is needed or forgotten.

That's so sweet you'll be including them in that way! 😊 I wish I had a squad of sisters to do the same haha. Thanks for the input!

I haven't see this at a wedding. We kinda just asked people (whoever made since) as we went for things like that. One wedding I was in they forgot the guest book and her brother went to pick it up for other. Another one, the groom forgot the marriage certificate and the wife of one of the groomsmen got it.

A day of coordinator is seriously worth the money! You then don't need to tell people to do things. It is all taken care of and you can just relax and enjoy the day.

Hire a DOC if you don't want to worry about logistics. It's not appropriate to deem a guest a "personal attendant."
