White on Wedding Trip (guest)

Casey, on January 21, 2020 at 11:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26
Hello all,
I'm headed to a destination wedding next week and thinking on my wardrobe; I bought a few new outfits as we will be staying a week and making a vacation of it, as will everyone we know who's going, including the B&G. However, one dress I purchased is white with flowers. I will NOT be wearing this to the ceremony or reception, but is it tacky to wear white at all? We still be seeing/hanging out with all our friends who are going (once again, including B&G) all the days we're there so they'll be seeing me wear it.

I'm now worried I made a mistake buying and shouldn't wear white at all this entire trip. Looking for honest opinions. A good part of me thinks that this is fine but the anxiety in me is going crazy..Am I overthinking it and worrying too much?

I personally don't think it's an issue in the slightest. As long as you're not wearing it to the wedding, which you aren't, it's not an issue at all.

Thank you! I wanted to see what other brides thought and felt to see the majority feel on the subject. 😊

I think it's really thoughtful of you to make sure you're not unintentionally committing a faux pas. I don't think your friend will mind at all. Go and rock that new dress you bought!

I’m getting married in Cabo this coming April and I would definitely not mind if anyone wants to wear white! Specially if they are showing a nice tan. Smiley smile

No reason at all to avoid wearing white , other than the wedding itself.

I vote yes! White dresses are super cute. Obviously you’re not wearing it to the wedding, I can’t see there being any problem.

I agree! You're not wearing it to the actual wedding, so I don't see why it would be an issue with the bride Smiley smile

Definitely overthinking it. As long as you aren’t wearing it to a wedding event you’re good.

I agree--as long as it isn't a set wedding event (welcome dinner, etc.) I think you're in the clear.

No one will care nor will it be an issue. I think a lot of brides wear white before the wedding, especially for any wedding related gatherings or events. You'll be perfectly fine.

That's the issue. She's not the bride.

I honestly would probably avoid it, especially if you're going to a lot of events/hanging out with the bride to be. If it's mostly floral with a little white, I think that's okay.

Ohhh, my mistake. In that case, I wouldn't go nuts about not wearing white, I mean if you already have the dress for the trip but I would try to avoid it when possible for any of the "wedding" events.

Thank you! 😄 I would never want to hurt the bride so I'm happy to hear people don't think I will!

It's a beach location so light colors just seem right but didn't want to commit a serious faux pas!

Thank you! I definitely plan to wear it to a non wedding event, maybe one of the tours or out shopping, probably when it's just the 2 of us.
