Where to honeymoon? Fh wants to relax, I want culture and adventure. Need best of both worlds.

Kim, on April 9, 2015 at 8:50 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 29

Getting married September 19th. FH has suggested St. Lucia And Antigua. Places we've looked at online are going for about $2500 per person. I am not interested in paying so much to sit on the beach and see the inside of resort and would prefer to go somewhere outside of the Caribbean. Maybe south of France, or on the Italian coastline somewhere, but not limited to those two, they're just examples. Suggestions?

Ever try a cruise? It's very relaxing on the boat, and then you guys could do cool stuff at the ports via excursions, etc. to get the culture and adventure that you want. Best of both worlds!

There are lots of excursions and things to do off resort at St. Lucia especially. At this point if you're looking to go in September flights to Europe alone will be about $1000 per person on the low end. It depends on your budget really.

We're going to st lucia sandals resort in 3 ish weeks. I'm not quite a beach person but we have the "stay at one, play at 3" option and they look like have plenty of things to do. Plus, on your honeymoon you don't really want to be running around. My fiance's friend went to Europe and right when we asked him about honeymoon options he screamed "BEACH BEACH BEACH! " he said the time change and walking alone tired them out so much.

Plus the pitons at at lucia look amazing! I want to hike them!

There's a lot of culture (at least, ancient culture) and a lot of adventure excursions to visit near Cancun, and the resorts cost about half what you stated.

I agree with Valarie. You should check out Costa Rica. We zip lined through the rainforest, went to waterfalls, volcanoes, hot springs, did mud baths, scuba dived, went horseback riding, and more. We also had days where we just relaxed at the pool and beach with drinks in our hands.

Mexico is also good for this. The beaches are beautiful but theres so much you can do with excursions, visiting pyramids, cenotes, etc. I've been there tons of times but my FH hasn't. We decided to go there for our honeymoon. Excellence Playa mujeres to be exact

I settled for a cruise! I love vacations that center around history (that's how I grew up) and FH loves relaxing, fun, beach vacations (how he grew up). So we are doing cruise for now and another vacation, we will do something else. Personally, I want to relax afterwards. No more planning!

We had the same conversation. He wanted somewhere relaxing. We settled on Cancun with a few excursions.

I also say cruise - you can relax on the beach/deck but there is always something to do if you're looking for a good time!

Cruise can be both options. It's the only vacation where you can separate. One goes to the pool other shops. I know it's a honeymoon lol but overtime you will want breaks. HAHA

Thanks everyone! Costa Rica is on the short list now for sure. Anyone know anybody who's been to Curacao?

We're actually doing our own tour of the Italian and French Rivieras. So excited! Check out the Cinque Terre. Have you considered Thailand? Plenty of culture and plenty of beach.

Definitely Sandals, my favorite Jamaica, for the value, things to do now in Ocho Rios, and the sales for the 7th night free. I have been there 7 times, feel free to ask. Also Jamaica is one of the only islands that has a service you can buy, that gets you through customs and immigration in a snap. Some countries/islands and take hours. Arriving and leaving. For culture, theres a lot to do.

I just saw that you want something outside the caribbean- Puglia Italy is a great place if you have the time to go and the patience for the flight! The reason a lot of brides choose caribbean is just because of proximity, connivence, and budget... We are going to Jamaica for 12 nights this october for our dating anniversary, and believe me we plan on seeing and doing things, but mostly its because its easy to get to , reasonable and relaxing and airport is cake.

Costa Rica/Nicaragua are easy places to travel to that would give you that.

If you are looking to go further abroad..

    - Israel

    - Zanzibar (Tanzania) & Mauritius

    - Greece

If you go to Nicaragua make sure to check out Little Corn Island!!

Another vote for Costa Rica - we wanted a little of everything, so we booked an all inclusive that gives us easy access to excursions. It seems like a win-win and we are looking forward to it. Smiley smile. We originally wanted Europe, but balked at the length of the flight and the cost.

I've been to Curacao. It's ok. there are a few neat excursions; but overall it's just kinda meh. there are a few nice beaches; but I wasn't THAT impressed..All the large resorts are in the city and it's very cramped. i MUCH preferred Aruba, although the resorts are all together, it felt more spread out and much nicer. Both trips I took in Oct/Nov and the weather was great both times!

Hi Date Twin!! my FH and I decided to go to the south pacific for our HM. But if you'll be bored laying on a beach for days on end, I think Europe is a great second choice!I've heard AMAZING things about the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Some other interesting options we considered were: New Zealand (tons of adventure activities if you like that), Greece, and Bali!

    Good luck!

Greece! You can spend a few days in Athens, then hop a ferry to a few different islands to enjoy the beaches! France or Italy also work Smiley smile
