Where are you in the planning process?

Yasmine, on December 7, 2020 at 11:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 31

For those of you getting married or having an upcoming celebration of marriage/vow renewal/reception etc., where are you in the planning process? What do you have left to do?

Our celebration of marriage is scheduled for March 2021. We have our final tasting in January to finalize the menu and I also have my alterations scheduled to start in January. We will also be sending out our invitations in January.

What about you all?

At this point, we are pretty much done with the planning process! Aside from one vendor, who has not been that communicative (which may be a sign that I should try to find someone else LOL), all of our vendors are booked. We just got really great Black Friday deals on FH’s suit, as well as a suit for my dad and a dress for my mom. Now we are just down to tiny things, like shoes, accessories, etc. Pretty much we are just saving money to pay off those vendors, and counting down the days until we can send out invites and reschedule our flights!

Yes all of our vendors are booked as well, our final payments aren't due but we will probably knock them all out next month after the holidays. & that's great that you were able to find awesome black Friday deals!

Similar to Chrysta, my fiance and I are pretty much done planning! We're looking for a new florist and redoing some of the minor details we didn't have much time to focus on before we postponed. I just packed all my wedding boxes away in a closet until 2022, so not doing too much lol. Looking for small things to tweak and thinking up ideas for what else I can do differently, but otherwise, just hanging out until 2022! How exciting that you're sending your invites out soon, and getting to do the tasting! I think the tasting has been my fiance's favorite part of the wedding planning process lol. Enjoy!!

We have our venue, photographer, and florist booked, as well as 'proposed' to our wedding party and asked our friend to marry us. Colors and overall design/theme has been decided as well. We've also picked out dresses and suits for our wedding party. STDs and invites are also picked out! Just have to get a handful of addresses back, then we'll be ready to order and send!

So far we've stayed under budget, and have found the remaining vendors we want to inquire about!

Still dreading dress shopping....but I'll probably start looking around March of next year!

You're definitely way ahead of the game! & good for you for staying under budget because we definitely did not lol. I do think that part of it was due to it being unrealistic at first though.

Thanks haha!! Yeah, I think the fact that our theme/look is minimal is helping us a lot especially with florals and decorations!

I'm still at the zero stage. I can't plan anything because literally no one can attend. Everyone lives overseas. I thought about doing it state side awhile back to not burden people financially early pandemic. That's obviously impossible since FH wouldn't be allowed into the country. It's frustrating because we wanted to get married in October. Contemplating eloping, but we really want our family there. We weren't even planning a large wedding, maximum 15 guests. Roll with the punches as they say.

Oh no I'm sorry to hear that. Does your husband not have a visa? Could you guys elope and have your family watch virtually? I know it's not the same of having family physically there though.

Or you could get married in October and plan to celebrate with your family later maybe?

Thanks, no visa because we don't live in the US so there has never been a need until now. I think we will just wait until travel is allowed again. In some ways I'm glad I didn't plan anything since it is all so uncertain, on the other hand not doing anything kinda makes the magic disappear. Was so happy to tell everyone last year now it's kinda just ho hum. Regardless, as long as we have our health I count ourselves lucky. The wedding will happen when it happens. Maybe for our 15th anniversary?

Oh okay gotcha! & yes it would've been very stressful if you had planned something here in the US during this pandemic. Let's just hope that these vaccinations actually help and things will get better in the future.

We were due to get married in October and postponed to April. I would say by March of this year, when everything halted, we had much of the significant stuff done with just loose ends to go. We sat down in June and made a very detailed checklist to see exactly what we had to do if we were to go ahead with October - FI was insistent that we could get everything done in the last 90 days, until he saw a checklist that was 80 items long!!

Now we are postponed to April and full steam ahead, so working through that checklist - a lot of our wedding is DIY, so there are lots of moving pieces that need to be coordinated along with dozens of small details. It gets tedious, but isn't that bad. The one big thing we need to do is finish our marriage prep (Catholic program), and get the ceremony planned. Hoping to not sit on that too much longer.

I started planning our wedding 16 months ahead so I definitely get it. And also I haven't been stressed at all because I was able to knock many things out early! I would recommend starting early!
