When to schedule alterations

Monica, on August 24, 2021 at 10:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
Wedding is October 2nd. I still have some weight to lose. Im wondering should I schedule alterations for early September or mid September. If my dress doesn’t fit I would need a corset back.

When should I schedule it?

Have you had any alterations as yet? What do you need done? I would suggest getting in front of an alterations person as soon as possible. Mine were reasonably extensive (taken in, hemmed, bustled, straps tightened, sleeves and extra tulle added) but she suggested three months, so I'd definitely get on it, find out how long the person would need, and book yourself in before it's too late.

I kind of have a personal alterations person, shes not through a bridal shop. I had alterations done last year before postponing. But I just had a baby so that adds a big factor to it. I called her at the end of july to let her know what’s going on but now i need to officially book a time And date since the day is getting closer

I would still arrange to see her as quickly as possible - she needs time to do the work, even if she isn't through a bridal store, and presumably you aren't her only client.

Certain things take much longer to complete than others due to their complexity. Ie, if you have a lace skirt/train, you can't just hem the bottom because you'd then lose the lace detailing - you have to take the bodice and the skirt apart, lift the skirt up by the right measurements, and re-sew back together. You also don't want to be too close to your wedding date to try on your completed dress for the first time, because if it doesn't fit somehow, you need time to make sure she can make final adjustments.

You can tell her you plan to lose weight, and she can schedule that part closest to the wedding while she works on the other elements.

Okay then I will call her tomorrow. I would need alterations on the bust. And possibly switch the zipper for a corset back.

My big wedding is October 2 and I had my first alterations appointment on August 1st. I'm scheduled for my next appointment & to pick up my dress on September 3rd. I will be leaving with my dress that day unless it needs to be altered more. I would scheduled ASAP

I got married on October 5th. We started alterations in mid August. You will have multiple fittings. I had my final fitting 2 weeks before my wedding.
I would start sooner than later. Seamstresses book up and wedding gown alterations can be time consuming.
