What was your Favorite/Most Memorable wedding gift?

Nessa, on April 12, 2016 at 10:59 PM Posted in Married Life 0 30

My best friend is getting married in a little over a week. I plan on giving them a cash gift but want to accompany it with something else that will be memorable- some sort of keepsake. So I'm wondering, what keepsake-like, non traditional, non-registry wedding gift did you receive and appreciate most? Or what gift of the sort have you given in the past that you know the couple really enjoyed?

They do not have a registry. I know, please don't get into the etiquette of it here. That's not the topic. If you must know they live overseas (apartment is rented fully furnished) and won't be returning to the states until almost two years from now so they would have no where to keep household items for the future. Their wedding guest list is really small and intimate so everyone who is attending knows the situation and knows that giving them any household items would be pointless. This is why I'm looking for something small and along the lines of a keepsake.

It won't help you at all with just a week to go, but I used to always cross-stitch a wedding announcement. When I couldn't do that any longer, I would go to Things Remembered and get a nice frame engraved with their names and wedding date.

You could get photo frames that are connected like a collage and find pictures of them online to put in them. Someone Did that for us and we thought it was so personal and special. We loved it

What about something like an engraved photo frame? Or really anything from Things Remembered.

    Love all of the ideas.

While we're on the topic, what is a good cash gift to give if you're part of the bridal party? Both my fiancé and I are in their BP and all together we've spent close to $900 on our participation. We did not, however, attend their bachelor/bachelorette parties due to scheduling conflicts and it being our of the country. Definitely want to give them a cash gift, just not sure how much is too little or too much?

My best friend is getting married in June, we will give her a cash gift, but I also made this for them at Color Me Mine - this was before it was baked the dark lines do not show up - on the bottom I added their names and wedding date.

This is probably really corny, but if they really don't have room for much stuff, then maybe make them a music mix that references some of the good times you've shared? And throw in some love songs that remind you of them? It's not necessarily a physical gift - although you could totally dress up the packaging! - but could be sweet and unique. Can you tell I'm a child of the 90s?

Personalcreations.com I always buy couples something off this website for weddings and they are really great prices and good quality. Plus there is a ton of different personalized things for any couple. And they come super quick so you may have a chance to get it in time for the wedding.

I would look on Etsy! I found some really cute personalized items I'm going to mail to a friend who's wedding I cannot attend. The whole time I was looking I kept thinking how much I would love receiving some of the items on there!

I was invited to the wedding of a co-worker and they were going to Ireland for their honeymoon--both were of Irish heritage. I found a store that sold Irish crystal and all sorts of things made in Ireland and I bought them a beautiful crystal decorative plate. They loved it.

My aunt gave me a quilt and a note. The note explained how in Sweden when my namesake great-grandmother (deceased) was a little girl, she and her friends would exchange handkerchiefs as a token to celebrate events (birthdays, etc.) The handkerchiefs were later passed on to my grandmother, and then my aunt after my grandmother passed. My aunt took my great grandmother's old Swedish tablecloths and made them and the handkerchiefs into a quilt for me.

Her gift made me start sobbing in the living room when we opened it.

    ETA- pic.

For a cash gift, give what you can afford! In my area, $100-$150 for a couple is average.

We had 2 registries (Target and BB&B) as well as a small registry on Etsy for personalized and home decor things! We received lots of personalized gifts that we love!!

My cousin brews his own beer (he and his wife actually served only home-brewed beer at their wedding [plus wine and a signature drink]) - they gave us a 6-pack variety pack of home brew, in a wooden 6-pack holder. Each beer had a tag on it of what it was with a note that said "beer for now" and then a gift certificate to our family's favorite bar/restaurant down at the shore with a note that said "beer for later"! Whenever we go to friends' houses, we bring our beers in the wooden carrier and we've gotten lots of compliments on it!

We got a nice throw blanket with our names and est. date embroidered on it, which we have displayed in our living room (and its also soft and comfy so we actually use it when we're cuddled on the couch, haha).

We got a sign that has different pictures that spells out our last name (they're pretty popular now but I love it!).

The Natty Boh/Utz girl champagne flutes came from one of my best friends as part of our gift. We live in Maryland so appropriate haha.

We got a personalized cutting board with our last name, cheese plate/trivet with our family monogram, and crab trivet with "Skinner Family" and our est. date (again- MD = crabs!)

Sorry, couldn't fit all my pics on my last post... Smiley smile

My college roomie gave us this art piece (along with a check) that she made- it has the lyrics to our first dance song on the tree! I just LOVE it, and its hung in our kitchen!

Obviously, I am a HUGE fan of personalized gifts when you are close to the bride/groom and know what they will like and appreciate!

I posted the favorite gift I gave but I did receive a great gift. When my first husband and I were married, we didn't have a wedding, so we didn't get very many gifts. We did get one from his great-aunt that we thought was wonderful--she gave us a cut glass square butter dish with lid that had belonged to his great-grandmother, along with a note explaining it's history. Even though his great-grandmother died when he was a child, he remembered her and his great-grandfather and this gift really meant a lot to him. We used it a few times on very special occasions, but it mostly is just displayed in a glass fronted cabinet, along with the note from his great-aunt.
