What to wear under the dress???

Hannah, on May 19, 2023 at 10:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
Hello! I don’t know what to wear under my wedding dress!! I’m wearing a custom gown with corset boning and bust underwire. Should I even both with a bra? I’m so lost?!?! So many dresses now have buoy in shape-wear!

At most underwear but I feel like that will get in the way if I have to pee.

Do you need lift and support? Or are you naturally perky? If you don’t need lift/support, you can go without anything underneath. If you do need lift and support, look into boob tape such as Goodlines. It works better than sewn in cups which only pad the nipples and don’t do anything beyond that, and many sticky bras such as Misses Kisses don’t provide support if you are larger than an A-B cup. Unless dresses have boning already in them, they don’t come with shapewear. If your dress does not have boning/corset sewn in, then look into Honeylove.

I didn’t wear a bra. Just panties and spanx.
Once my dress was altered it fit so nicely a bra wasn’t needed at all. I had a strapless sweetheart neckline. It also had a bra like elastic inside to help hold the dress in place.
    I’m a 34G for reference.

I also don’t know what I want to wear under my dress. I tried my dress with and without a bra and I preferred it with one, but I have a feeling once I get it altered I might not need one. But I’ve also looked into some shape-wear just in case.

I wore a full on bridal bustier and lace thong for my wedding day. 💋
    In saying that though I
1). was having my wedding on a cool, fall day 2). didn’t have a dress that had a corset closure nor boning & 3). wanted to be all ready for the wedding night. (even though we just went straight home and fell asleep 💤 🤣)
those were my reasons as to why I chose that route. I have had times though where I’ve just worn stick on nipple covers, like even with white dresses for events etc. and made sure they were a nude color that way they didn’t show thru. Even with thin fabric of some of the dresses I’ve worn for family pictures and events (like my gender reveal being the most recent) those worked the best for me. At the time at least.
Years back in 2019 for my wedding I was smaller than I am now, not just from currently being pregnant lol. I’ve had hormonal issues since my wedding due to stopping birth control and having endo complications. regardless I’ve always been bigger chested. As far as the full stick-on bras — those have never worked for me personally and have always been a waste of money. And super uncomfortable.
I’d say if you already have boning you may be fine with nothing but if you’re feeling a little self conscious I agree with the other commenter that mentioned fashion tape and/or the nude, silicone & stick on nipple covers like I mentioned. (so not the full on bra one, just the individual covers)
Ultimately it’s just whatever you’ll be most comfortable with. Especially once it’s you’re reception/after the ceremony and youll more than likely be sweating by this time. Particularly depending on when your wedding is.
    Hope that helped.
Best wishes on your wedding and marriage to follow 🖤🥂

    I am wearing NADA. LOL.

Ok, I fib. I am wearing nipple covers. I get headlights even in 90-degree weather, so you know..... LOL. Those things have shown their existence through the heaviest of winter sweaters. Smh. "Headlights" is a fitting nickname, let me tell you. I will add in here that I am not super big up top and have no need for extra lift or support. And adding extra cleavage, though an option with undergarments and even tailoring, is totally against who I am or what I AND my fiancé are used to. In that regard, I feel more myself and comfortable with no added "HAY NOW LOOK AT ME's!" all popping out for show and tell. Just no need for me for the lift or support, and no want to either.

My gown is Sheath and fits to my body. I did wear spanx type shorts (long on the thighs, high on the waist) my initial try on appt when I found the dress, and also when it came in for accessory appointment, and first and second fitting. Mainly because I thought it was just "proper" to do so. Ridiculous, I know.

My seamstress told me I don't need to wear them, then the second fitting when I did again, she said, "What are you seeing through those eyes of yours that is JUST NOT THERE?!" LOL. I shrugged, but- before I took off the gown the second fitting, I removed the shorts, and I was shocked that she was right. I don't need the shorts. Can't see through anything, It doesn't even LOOK like I am NOT wearing any undergarments. Yes, shocked. LOL. With her advice on the matter and push for me to rid of them, I am HAPPILY back to my, "I ain't wearing NADA".

    Besides those nipple covers.

Most of my girlfriends are well endowed in the bust area and some (even with having a bustle on their gowns) opted to wear support type undergarments for that area. And most have all opted to wear some sort of spanx type things. Either for smooth lines, or to comfort them with their troubled areas. I am used to nada on the daily basis- so naturally wanted to keep it that way for wedding day. (Again, besides my nipple covers, LOL. Man, I love them suckers.) I just don't like the restricting feeling undergarments can give. And, like I previously mentioned, went with the short type things mainly because of forums, what others have done, and I thought it was "proper" to do so. Forget that. I'm free balling everything.

Wear what you feel COMFORTABLE IN. If you choose an undergarment, just make sure you are comfortable in it as it does whatever job you want it to do!
