What to do with engraved wedding extras when you have postponed your wedding?

Brittany, on July 11, 2020 at 6:17 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

I recently postponed my wedding and the process of all of that as many of you know has been stressful. We now have a year and a half till our date rather then 6 months and its awful. But another issue is all of the things I purchased with our wedding date on them our tasting flutes, cake serving ware, hangers, guest book etc. I am going to leave the hangers as is because it's one less thing to think about, the guest book will be purchased again, which is leading us to the serving ware/glassware. The guest book I can find a way to repurpose as its a book, but if we repurchase the glasses and cake stuff I have no use for the ones we have. My fiance wants to repurchase & I considered just adding the new date, especially since we already have 2 set of the serving ware as there was a mistake with the first set. Basically I want to know what everyone else is planning to do if they have this problem.

I’d use all of those items. No one is zeroing in on it like that (and photographer doesn’t need a zoomed in pic). It’s just glassware, serving utensils and and a book.

I would also recommend still using them. If you'd like to, you can add the new date on those items underneath the original date, since the original date is part of your story. But I don't think there's a need to repurchase the items.

I am in the same predicament. I have party favors, party favor bags, and my flutes that have my original date. What we decided to do was keep the favors with the original date. I found these cute wedding labels that I can put over the original date. For the flutes, I think we are going to reorder with the new date. That is something that we will use for years to come and we want it to have the date we said "I Do".

I think it’s totally fine to use everything. It’s part of your story and people don’t worry about that.

That's why I have been considering repurchasing, it's not about the guests seeing it but about having those items for years to come and looking at them and seeing the date I didn't get married, rather then the day I did. I like the idea of the stickers I might look into that for the guest book, but I think this definitely helped me with the decision. Thank you!

I think it would be really nice if you still use them after all the date has a place in your life story

Maybe you could sell them to someone who is getting married on that date? A stretch but you never know, people might jump at a small discount on a pre-engraved gift.

I considered that but it has the last name on it and the likelihood they'd be getting married the same date with the same name. I wish there was a way to buff it out but it seems unlikely without damaging it.

We plan to use them this year for our non wedding day celebration and will probably hold onto them, but with as rough as this year was we don't want to be reminded of it on our day.
