What percentage did the venue/catering take up of your overall budget?

Hi All - I’m trying desperately to understand how much my venue and catering (which is often combined in a package, including open bars and food) cost you compared to the overall spend on the wedding. I’m a little sticker shocked at some of the Jersey prices for venues. Particularly, we are looking in Northern Jersey and I’m getting quotes upwards of mid $40k for a 150-175 person wedding on the weekend during peak season (fall). Trying to reconcile if the majority of people’s budget tends to go to the venue, as that would leave us with some wiggle room for other things (entertainment, DJ, wedding dress, rehearsal dinner, etc).
