What on earth do i even want?

Ally, on November 2, 2023 at 3:42 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12
I feel like I have no idea what direction I want my wedding to go. My lovely fiance and I have so many ideas of what we like and what would make for a spectacular evening and I just want to encorporate everything but nothing is cohesive! At first we wanted exposed brick and twinkle lights, dark and moody but still very pretty and magical. Then I loved the idea of a floral theme and we changed to "celestial garden" to keep the sparkle and dark tone but still want to keep the exposed brick. I bought my dress (which I absolutely love and attached a pictureWhat on earth do i even want? 1

) in hopes of finding a more clear direction to go but now I'm struggling with colors and decoration. I wanted black dresses for our wedding party but my partner wants color and I have no idea what would be right. Is this what a wedding planner is for or am I just completely overthinking an event that's two years away?

I wouldn’t make any fast and hard decisions about decor two years out. You will probably change your mind another 10 times before then! What I would suggest is creating Pinterest board(s). Pin things that you absolutely love or that really speak to you. Then review them in 6 months and see what still speaks to you, and what you no longer like and can delete.

Ah an ongoing pinterest board I like that! Am I able to share access with my fiance so they can add to it as well?

You sure can! Your fiancé will just need to make a Pinterest account as well

I think you are getting too hung up on the idea of a theme. The theme of your wedding first and foremost is marriage! You can incorporate any and all of your ideas in terms of decor. Your FI doesn't get to tell you what your BMs should wear. I'd go from there.

Who says you have to choose pastels or moody colors? You could totally try to do both! It may be a little tricky to find the right balance, but the contrast will look so pretty in pictures! Maybe post pics of both the pastel and dark ones you and your fiance really like, and we could help you try to combine elements from both themes

I felt the same way when I started planning. There are so many choices! We made decisions between our top choices based on practicality and price. A couple of examples:

    1. The colors for bridesmaids were going to either be sage or burgundy. My MOH didn't want to wear sage, so we went with burgundy.

    2. I chose my flower colors (burgundy) because one of the boutiques had a dark red fake bouquet for brides to hold and I loved the contrast on the white dress. That's how we chose burgundy as a wedding color.

    3. Invitations were burgundy instead of sage because we liked that mock up better.

There are a lot more examples. You have some time to let things fall into place and experiment. If you're really worried, you can find a designer to consult. I think they'd help more than a planner, although some vendors have packages where they do both.

You feel without direction because you just started planning. Everyone felt like that at some point because there are a lot of choices and beautiful things to choose from. Down the road your thoughts and ideas are going to come more confident and organized. It’s still too early and you most likely will change your mind over and over again. Don’t worry too much, just keep searching for ideas and you will find your style.

Yes! If you're still in the beginning stages, it's not good to compare your progress to the finished product (especially since you don't know how long it took to make the decisions necessary to do that)

Why not both?! Dark & moody meets celestial garden? Your dress is perfect for that magical theme.

Did you already book your venue? If not, do that first. Your venue will give you ideas and you can make sure your colors/theme don’t clash with your venue.

Jewel Tones girl! Look up "jewel tone wedding" on google or Pinterest and I think it will be something you'll love that will also help with decisions!
