What color tulle should i use for decorations? White or ivory?

Natalie, on June 25, 2019 at 10:59 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

Hello everyone! I've never posted anything on here, but I can't decide on which color tulle to use, so maybe you can help me! I'll post a picture of my dress (picture is before it's altered/fitted). My fiance and I decided to have our ceremony/reception at a campground. It has two lakes and lots of wooded areas. We're both very outdoorsy so it fits us and we love camping! The pavilion we are using looks a little older, so I'm going to dress is up and make it look a little nicer! I've seen so many pictures on Pinterest using a fabric to hide the posts and dress it up a little bit. I was going to use tulle, maybe double it up, to hang. I can't tell if the bright white looks nice, or cheap? And if the ivory looks dingy? Most of my family is saying choose white, but I'm leaning toward ivory. I can't tell which looks better! I don't mind if it doesn't match up with my wedding dress, I just want to know which one might look nicer! I used paint to kind of sketch out my idea. The white in the picture will be the tulle. We're hanging a bunch of string lights across the top, as well as around those middle posts with tulle around the outside and greenery. I know the tulle will be much thinner and more transparent, but I put a picture of the idea I'm going for at the bottom. Thanks for reading my post!!

I would do ivory. Pure white is really harsh (to me, anyway) and will be even more so with lighting behind it.

Thank you guys! I think so, too. It's always good to get an outside opinion!

I think ivory will be softer and more "warm" against the wood. The only thing I'd caution about is that it takes a LOT of tulle for it to not basically be sheer and disappear. (I found this out from experience when I used it to decorate for a 50th anniversary party.) True tulle will not look like the last photo you posted. I don't want to be negative, but I want to give you some insight to help you realistically achieve your "vision." I think I purchased more than 50 yards of ivory tulle and it basically disappeared because it it so see-through. Good luck! Once you figure out the details, your venue will look gorgeous!

No, thank you for your honesty! I thought about how transparent it will be and won't look exactly how I'd like it, but maybe if I double it up it'll look nicer? I found a really pretty material at hobby lobby I could get for 40% off.. 50 yards at 108" wide would and up being $210, but maybe it'd be worth it?? I found the 50 yards of ivory tulle for $32 online and it's 108" wide. So I could technically even triple it and still get it for less money. Not really sure what to do and I have a feeling I won't really know until I put it up and try it!

    Ivory 100%

I agree with the person above me that I think the vision may not be achieved with tulle as the ones in the photos look more like actual drapes (you can tell because they hang heavier). tulle may be too light/fluffy. I would buy a bit to try it out before investing in the whole lot!

    P.s. I love your dress

Thank you everyone! That's so nice. I ended up finding some 54" wide chiffon at Joann's. I can use a 60% off coupon so it ends up being $1.99/yard! I found one that looks a little less bright white! Thank you everyone for your input!

Ivory is not as "fluorescent" if that makes sense so I think the lighting will be softer with it.

First of all, i love you dress, it's gorgeous. as far as he tulle, i would ivory. it's softer, you'll get a more romantic feel with ivory. i think your plans for the pavilion looks fantastic and you're going to have a stunning venue when it's all said and done.

Thank you everyone! I'll have to post pictures of how it turns out in September Smiley laugh Hopefully I'll have some good tips and insight by then! And I agree the white can have that fluorescent look to it.
