What Are You Doing With Your Dress After The Wedding?

Lisa, on October 26, 2022 at 10:06 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27
I'm curious what everyone is doing with their wedding attire (dresses, suits, veils, hair pieces, jewelry, shoes, etc) after the wedding day. Are you preserving your dress? Donating it? Selling it? Altering it into something you can wear again? Other ideas? What are you doing with your veil/jewelry/shoes? If you wore a suit, do you plan to wear it again?

I had my dress preserved and packed my veil away without preservation (it was my mom's and had never had anything done to it beyond the alteration that I had to have done to it (take it off huge 1972 headband and put it on a comb) so I didn't want to chance it). I specifically bought shoes/accessories/etc. that I could wear again.

I also had my dress preserved, but totally forgot about my veil! I'm not sure whether I was supposed to preserve it or not. Awesome that you wore your mom's veil! Similar to you, my accessories will be worn again. They were mostly ones I already owned and wore previously, and will wear again in the future.

I'll probably sell mine on one of the websites like stillwhite. If it doesn't sell, I'll donate it.

Donating it is a good option! I considered it for my dresses, since they'd otherwise just take up space in storage, but decided to hold onto them for a while, so I got them preserved. Hopefully you're able to sell yours and make some money back from it!

I want to have my dress shortened so I can wear it on anniversaries and maybe have the train of it made into a cape/ capelet. I'm not 100% sure what I want to do with the leftover materials, but I think I'd like to have it made into a christening gown if possible.

Having it made into an anniversary dress is a really cool idea! The christening gown from the leftover materials is awesome too - my mom did that with her original wedding dress (she ended up having to buy a new dress), and I believe she still has it. Interesting idea to have the train also transformed into an article of clothing! What does your train look like on your dress?

I want to take my dress and make it into a top and then use the tulle at the bottom to make into a skirt and make it an outfit that I can wear on anniversaries or other special occasions. I will have the veil either preserved and put away or just put away for safe keeping for my own daughter if I have one in the future

I love the anniversary outfit idea! Does your veil have any lace or beading that matches your dress? Such a sweet idea to save the veil in case your potential future daughter wants to wear it!

It does! the beading/lace on the edge of the veil exactly matches that of my dress

Stunning!! I love how the lace on the veil outlines the train of the dress. Beautiful choice!

I got both of mine preserved, and they're also sitting in a box in my closet at the moment. Do you think you'll wear yours again and/or find something to do with it? Or do you plan to always keep it in your closet? I'd like to find something to do with mine to where it's not just taking up space, but not sold on getting them altered into other dresses yet!

I did put it on for our 1 year anniversary to do the wedding dress challenge. it basically was when you randomly put it on and show your spouse to see their reaction lol

I haven't fully decided on mine yet, but I'll probably keep it. Even if I never wear it again, it's a nice memento. It also might come in handy for another event because it's a white evening gown, so I could wear it to a formal gathering.

It is a wonderful memento! I kept both of mine as well, but debating whether to convert one (or both) to another article of clothing that I can wear again.

Same honestly lol I wanted to get it preserved but then covid happened and the mail system suddenly became extremely unreliable (my preservation method was a mail-in) and then I just never got around to doing it ($100 down the drain oops). Idk if I'll ever get it preserved because I want to wear it again to feel princess-y but I've worn my wedding jewelry a handful of times in the last 3yrs since getting married.
