Weight Loss

Alexa, on July 3, 2018 at 5:19 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 25

Hi friends... So my wedding is 11 months away and I desperately want to lose weight, but I can't find the motivation. When my FH and I first met, I weighed 40 lbs less than I do now. I was hospitalized last year and was forced to take medication for which the side effects included significant weight gain. I used to be very thin and never had to watch what I ate. For some reason I feel like I NEED to get back to that weight again but I honestly don't even know where to begin. I'm so unmotivated because I feel like my goal is unattainable... Any suggestions?

I’m in a similar situation where I was always thin and then packed on like 40lbs and felt terrible about myself. I am DETERMINED to loose it before my wedding next June. I’ve been using the Noom app and I really like it. It gives you advice and challenges daily to help you stay encouraged/focused.

Hey I gained 100 pounds due to pregnancy and over eating lol I’ve lost 69 and I need 40 more to go but I have six months to do it what I’ve done is cut out the potato rice bread fried foods and eat a lot of salad with chicken no red meat drink only water or lemonade and also smoothies whenever you have a craving and instead of eating ice cream eat frozen yogurt for exercise I’ve been using the bike but it’s not instense so I would say do cardio or a 2 mike walk 3 times a week would help

There are a lot of diet plans out there you can try. I like 21 day fix because no food is really off limits - it's more of a portion control diet - and you can do a cycle (3 weeks), take a week off, then go back to it. That said, I'm also getting married in June next year. I used to be a size four and then got pregnant at 39 and I haven't been able to drop the weight as easily as I did with my first 2. I'm a 10-12 now at 41. I just think it's harder when you're older.

So I'm right there with you guys.

Go wedding dress shopping! I’d been thin all my life...until the year or two before I was engaged. Arrrrg. I tried on dresses and thought “Oh hells no.” I did Keto and got a trainer. Lost 10 pounds in 3 months & another 5 by wedding. Yay! Use your wedding dress/pics to motivate you. You got this! 👍

It can be overwhelming when you just think about the really big numbers. I broke my weight loss down into small goals. 2-3lbs, so you can always celebrate a win and believe it or not it helps to stay positive. I've been doing it that way and I'm down 32 pounds. I still have a way to go but it feels good! Start with some exercise 3 times a week for 30 minutes and then increase as you get used to it. Also smaller portions and don't beat yourself up if you overeat or indulge in something. You have time! Best of luck!

I'm currently down 20 lbs, I've been using 310 shakes, with exercising 4-5 days a week and clean eating. I'm planning on loosing at least another 20 lbs by next June

Yep, I need to lose about 35 lbs as well. Since reading Kelly Leveque's "Body Love" book beginning of April, and listening to all the podcasts that have her as a guest, I have been able to lose 10 lbs! I love her ideas of eating in balance. She basically preaches eating 3 meals a day with a serving of protein, fat, fiber, & greens at each meal; no snacking and making sure to get movement in. The idea is to keep your blood sugar in balance so you are in fat burning mode. So very loosely based off the keto diet, but she just doesn't want to give you "don't eat this" lists. However, she does recommend keeping one meal a day a carb free, and limiting carbs to just one source per meal. It totally makes sense, but I will say, social situations make it super hard for me to keep to this plan all the time.

I saw people above recommend Noom, and just downloaded it. I like the idea of this app, but I don't like their nutrition guide. They seem to preach a low-fat diet, since the fats and red meat are in the "red" category meaning keeping these low in your diet. My one concern with this is that any food you get that is "low fat" will almost always include sugar, which this is truly what makes us fat, not the actual fat we eat. So that's a bit disappointing that their science on how to eat is not up-to-date with the current science.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I was about 40 pounds less when my FH and I first met. I desperately want to lose the weight before I order my dress in November. I'm perfectly fine with going to the gym, and I go 5 days a week. My biggest issue is just that I eat so much! I'm hoping I can lose the weight by my wedding. I love the 30 day fitness challenge app! I highly recommend it!

I want to lose weight also! My wedding is in February, and I don't have a dress yet. I found several places nearby that sell dresses off the rack. Im debating if i want to go that route in order to find a better fitting dress.

I second the suggestion of breaking down the big goal into smaller goals. If you sit around thinking you need to lose 40 pounds, it's bound to feel really daunting. If you think about losing five pounds? Not as scary. Start small and celebrate your milestones. You can also start making small, but sustainable changes in your diet. I went from eating meat and potatoes (or rice/pasta) with every meal to eating meat once a week and eating a plant-based diet the rest of the time. Is it for everyone? No, but it works for me. I discovered fruits and vegetables that I had no idea that I loved. When I met my FH, I weighed 155. Two years later, I was up to 185 (maybe 190. I was afraid of getting on the scale until after I had been exercising for a while). Now, I'm sitting around 140-145. You CAN do it. If I can do it, you can, too. Couch to 5K was a lifesaver for me. You just have to find something you like (or don't hate) doing, and think of it like going to work - you may not want to do it, but it's just something you've got to get done for the day. Good luck!

I understand the struggle! We just set out date for a little under 2 years from now. I gained a lot of weight in the last few years and would love to drop a few sizes by the wedding, but with it being so far out I cannot find the motivation! Good luck to you girl! You can do it!

    Hi Brooke,

just curious if you were still using this body love technique? I have always had more success with a lower carb and have done keto, but have trouble maintaining the strict guidelines. I usually end up doing my own revised version. I hope it's still working for you.

Hi Andrea! Yes, the "body Love" method still works! As long as I'm consistent, I definitely notice the changes in my body and even my skin! But social situations are still hard for me to stay consistent, since Kelly Leveque is all about the Fab 4 (proteins, fiber, fat, & greens) and Party + 1 (meaning the carb or sugar). So you can go out with friends, go carb free for dinner but choosing either the bread, wine, or dessert for your Party +1. The same can be said for your lunch or dinner on a normal day. I will say, when going out to eat, I love to drink, so it's hard to say no to bread when I want my wine. But I also don't want to stress about it either. So if I know I will be going for dinner with drinks and may indulge in either the pasta or dessert or whatever; I'll keep the rest of my meals earlier in the day all carb free. The next day, I'll then make sure to get in a good workout to burn off the extra glucose in my system, to re-balance myself. It's about loose-structure, rather than these strict guidelines. And making sure to keep my blood sugar in balance so my body is burning fat rather than the glucose.

So I usually wake-up in the morning, do a fasted 25-30 minute workout to burn-off excess glucose and really tap into my fat burning mode. I follow that with my Fab 4 smoothie (unsweetened almond milk, collagen protein powder, almond butter, chia seeds, and handful of blueberries and spinach) or on the weekends it's a veggie omelette with cheese and maybe some bacon; about 5 hours later, I'll have lunch of usually mixed greens, chicken, 1/2 avocado, handful of walnuts, and some extra veggies like bell peppers or cherry tomatoes, and primal kitchen dressing; then 5 hours later, it's dinner of salmon and roasted brussel sprouts with olive oil. If I need, I sometimes have a piece of 80% cacao dark chocolate. - this is when I am super on point with the eating plan. However, lunch or dinner could have a 1/2 cup of whole grains if I want. And if I splurge, I'm real with myself, and just make the decision to let it go and make the next meal as nutritious as possible. It's about making it work for you; but just making sure you still get the protein, fat, fiber, and greens as well. And letting go of the anxiety/guilt/drama of food choices.
