Wedding Venue Reception Budget

Daphne, on August 11, 2023 at 9:32 AM Posted in New York Planning 0 4
I have gone on a few tours and can't afford these venue prices. I'm in New York and venues are charging on a Saturday in April between 24-30k for the venue, catering and, bar. What are my options if I am looking for a venue for 15k just the venue or for the same package. I can't change my date. These prices make me want to go to city hall and have a small dinner. What tricks do you have?

NY is very expensive. It’s why we got married out of state. I wanted an outdoor woodsy ceremony and everything was too expensive here so we ended up finding a completely do it yourself venue in maryland that had the kind of ceremony spot I wanted. We also got married on a Sunday because it’s cheaper. If you’re looking for an all inclusive venue on a Saturday it’s going to be expensive

Decreasing your guest count is the quickest way to reduce the cost of a wedding. Are these venues requiring a minimum spend or is this what the per person cost currently comes out too (most venues have both). If this is the per person total, start making edits to your list. It is tough committing to a date before you’ve found a venue because then your options will be more limited. You can also see if they’ll do an earlier ceremony and reception, since brunch/lunch receptions are often cheaper.

As Kimberly suggested, brunch/lunch receptions are less expensive than evening receptions. Otherwise, consider Parks and Rec departments or Veteran/Fire Halls for the reception.

New York weddings are expensive. Especially a wedding on a Saturday in April. Weddings during the “off season” , day time weddings, and wedding on a day other than Saturday will be cheaper but still pricey. Where in Ny are you looking and how many guests are you planning on inviting. I have no idea how much it actually cost but a few yrs ago one of my cousins had Nyc Cruise wedding. It was so much fun and she said it was way more affordable than the venues they were looking at so maybe check that out as an option, I believe the company was City Cruises but there are probably several. Best of luck to you!
