Wedding Venue?! Help!

Vincent, on September 26, 2018 at 12:42 AM Posted in Maine Planning 0 9
My FI and I are both originally from Maine... and currently live in Boston! We are looking to get married in early summer of 2020. We have a large wedding party and lots of family and friends who enjoy a party. Our guest list is between 125-150. We were engaged in Disney and originally planned on having a Disney wedding in Orlando... after research and meeting with Disney planners it was clear that we were only going to be able to invite 65 guests. Not really our style! wink.png
We have toured a number of venues both in and out of state and our heart always comes back to Maine. We are trying to stay under $20,000. We are most interested in an inclusive package that has overnight accommodations for guests as many of them will be coming from out of state. We have toured Sunday River, Union Bluff, The Colony Hotel, Inn on Peaks Island, Westin Portland, Merrill Auditorium and love them all in different ways and have "felt the feelings" at each but have nit picked at each one for having something the other didn't. We would like the reception to not end at 10pm. What are some of your favorite venues? What are your thoughts? We are options kind of people!
Thank you in advance for your ideas!

Welcome to WeddingWire, Vincent!! Smiley ring

I recently just moved from Brookline and am missing the Boston area! Maine is gorgeous, especially for weddings!! I always loved the Ogunquit and York Beach area for vacations!

Have you tried using the WeddingWire vendor search tool? You might fall in love with it because it's a great way to look/compare options!! And you can use the filters to narrow down your search results to the type of venue you're looking for.

Is there a particularly part of Maine you're looking to stay near?

Thank you for your reply! We are really open to anywhere in Maine. Well.. from Bar Harbor down. Ideally we would like to be on the coast or to be in the mountains. I think what we love about many of the places we've toured is the ceremony location overlooking the ocean or a beautiful setting in the mountains and the fact that many of our guests traveling from out of state will have accommodations for the length of the wedding.

I have tried the tabs on the website and have spent lots of time looking through options. I'm interested in opinions and recommendations?! So if you have them... send them my way!

Have you checked out East Winds Inn in Tenants Harbor? I attended a wedding there recently and after the dancing in the tent the bride and groom had an after party in the Tavern there that fit all the people who wanted to keep going. It was a fantastic time! The food and service where incredible.

They had their ceremony overlooking the harbor, the chose a day/time when they knew the tide would be up so it looked fantastic in pictures. I'm not sure what it's like to work with the venue itself, but it might be worth checking out Smiley smile

There's also the Samoset in Rockport (out of my personal price range, not sure what their options are though), Harmony Hill Farm in Warren, Maine, and the Snow Bowl in Camden- I know for the Snow Bowl it's a pretty cheap rental rate, but you'd probably want to transform the space a bit, since it's a lodge. But all options that have great reviews from people in the midcoast area Smiley smile Smiley smile

The Shipyard Brew Hauss is really reasonable and there’s a beautiful bridge.

Have you looked into summer camps? We looked at some and loved the idea. You can rent the entire camp with accommodations all for once price.

We are getting married Sept 2020 at Hardy Farm in Fryeburg! There are still some summer 2020 dates available, room for 32 to sleep on property between a beautiful Farm house and a lodge 2 minutes down the road (which you have from Thursday AM until Sunday at 12pm). It is a private property so you can byob (huge money saver), and they have their beautiful sailcloth tent set up for the wedding season included in the venue fee.

You could always get an Air B&B that can double as a hotel and venue! Many people have done that and it is usually cheaper than renting a huge lodge. You can find some big farm houses around the greater Portland area or even near Kittery if you are willing to drive!

Hi! I’ve been trying to do just this.... but I’m overwhelmed! Could you steer me in the right direction? Do you have some suggestions of where to search or what sorts of things to type in? Maybe it’s the brain fog from all this wedding searching... but I’m getting nothing.

If you do something close to Portland you can always have an after party at a bar : )
