Wedding Rings! Opinions and advice needed on cost/style

Tiger Bride, on March 26, 2020 at 11:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Hey everyone! Anyone want to take their mind off the craziness and help me figure out what to do for a wedding band?

This is my engagement ring (not exact, but the style): https://image.brilliantearth.com/media/cache/9e/28/9e28f5adbdc781692458a2e91dec71be.jpg
I have been thinking I'd like a wedding band in a similar "twist" style - no diamonds, just solid gold. But I've been having some doubts:- Would the sides of the rings get scratched from the bands rubbing against each other? I wouldn't want them soldered together and I doubt with that style they even could be- They probably wouldn't lie flush...would that look odd? Should I plan to wear one at a time?
And slightly unrelated (maybe a separate thread would be better for this), but what's a "good" price for a gold band? Ideally I'd like to pay $200 or so, but since BE's band (when they sold it) was $800, I'm leery of Amazon/Etsy sellers who are selling "comparable" rings for much cheaper. But I don't know what gold "should" cost.
Thanks so much!!

I think a twist band maybe with diamond studding would look best, at least that's what I pictured when I saw the photo of your engagement ring! However I think it would look good just plain gold twist too. My wedding band is also just plain gold and I am a fan of that look. I would recommend going to a jeweler and seeing if they can recommend a specific band to fit with your engagement ring, or maybe if they can do a custom band so that it would flush perfectly against your engagement ring. They shouldn't scratch each other if they are both made of gold (it's extremely durable) but it could just be annoying if they don't fit together perfectly.

As for the "right" price for a gold band... I have just a plain, 2mm white gold band, and it was $450. I would think that is close to the accurate pricing for what a "good" band should be, since it seems comparable to what other people I know paid, and also I really trust the jeweler we got it from.

If you have a silver band I quite suggest also being silver. That’s my opinion. If the band is made correct it should damage they usually are very strong. I suggest a simple band. Do you want your FH to match?

Thank you! I've been to a couple jewelers that haven't had anything like what I have, but I didn't ask about custom. That would be pretty cool 😊

The photo is actually white gold though mine is a little different. FH has something different/specific in mind so while I'd like us to maybe have the same metal I'd rather he gets what makes him happy!

He actually wants a wooden ring, so we have been looking into the best way to do that (solid wood vs. inlay, etc.) I'm also considering a matching ring to whatever we get him, but I haven't decided.

From my personal experience, I don't think you'll be able to find a real gold band for just $200. gold can be expensive, especially when it's designed similar to your engagement ring. I think the sides of your rings may rub down the twist a bit, but there's virtually no way to avoid that. My engagement ring has a design on the bottom where my wedding ring meets it and that's kind of been rubbed down just from wearing it. I think it's totally fine if the rings aren't flush! My engagement ring has a design my wedding ring is straight across so it doesn't fit flush and I don't mind it.

I would go to a jeweler and show tell them what you want. It’s really not that much to have something made to match if that’s what you’re looking for. My husband had my e-ring and wedding band custom made and they fit great. The only thing is that they slide around because I didn’t get them soldered together and sometimes they drive me crazy.
