Wedding Procession Ceremony

Genevieve, on April 3, 2024 at 11:54 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hello!

I am very curious, how many songs do you plan on using for the ceremony that includes people walking down the aisle. I have a very specific song I want to use to walk down the aisle to. Not sure if it is long enough for both wedding party and bride to walk to or if I will need a separate song for the wedding party (groom, parents, Mother of the bride, bridesmaids (8), groomsmen (10), flower girls and ring bearer plus bride and father). How long does it usually take for people to walk down the aisle start to finish? Obviously going to give more time for our flower girls (95 and 3 years old) lol.

Usually there's a song for the wedding party, then a bit of a pause, then another song just for you to walk. The pause kind of signals the guests that you're about to come down the aisle. That's the way I've seen it.

Traditionally there’s one song for the bridal party and one for the bride. Sometimes there’s another song for seating the grandparents and parents.

Unless your venue has an aisle that is equivalent to a city block in length, which is common in a fancy cathedral but unheard of at most venues, the processional for the bride lasts less than a minute, which people don’t realize is a long time. The same applies for a 3min first dance vs a 1min dance. Many brides who are currently choosing to eliminate any and all escorts (under the idea that it gives the impression that the bride is given away as property which has not occurred in over a century, if not longer) tend to walk super fast. The escort helps them walk at a normal slow pace. A normal pace for a bride is half the pace of slow walking. For example, think how slow you walk when out of breath: that is the pace you should be walking down the aisle preferably.

Prior to that, when bridesmaids and parents enter, those songs can take any length, walking the same slowed down pace, within the last part of the 30 minutes when guests are being seated. A 3min song will work for 3-5 bridesmaids and that’s normal. Often parents and bridesmaids (and flower girls) all enter to the same song. All of this is why a rehearsal is so important. But couples say they don’t need them because they “know how to walk from point a to b.” It’s not that simple when you actually do it.

We had an outdoor ceremony with a long aisle, and we just had one long 5-minute instrumental song. But we had a small bridal party, so we did work a couple pauses in, one before the groom came in with his parents and one before me.

We have a long walk to the ceremony site, since it is outdoors. I am having the dj play the instrumental version of the song i am walking down the asile too, so hopefully it can be merged so when i start to walk the vocal part comes into play. you should be able to find the instrumental version of your song. Good luck.
