I think now would be a great time to start looking through venues online to get an idea of what you like and don't like. Venues often book up a year or more in advance, so while you don't need to rush to book a venue right now, getting a head start on finding which venues you want to tour - and any vendors (photographer, DJ, etc) that you are interested in - would give you the best chance of booking the ones you want before someone else books them first.

Start now! All my friends decided to do a wedding within a year but it completely limits your venue and pricing. Some places you can even lock in 2024 pricing for 2026 which saves a ton of money! However, when it comes to picking a wedding party and sending invites I'd wait until at least a year out but any vendors are fair game!

I'd say the sooner the better. We've booked our venue, organised a celebrant, booked a photographer and a videographer, and have a few quotes waiting to be booked/confirmed. Weddings are so expensive the longer we have to save and pay them off the better. And time flies, before we know it it'll be here

My wedding is June 13 2026, so I get it! We got engaged in October, for reference. I’ve done a lot of daydreaming and a little research. So far, we have booked our venue and that’s pretty much it. We also booked a photographer very early for a deal rate. We did a package with the venue so technically a few more things are booked, but we’ve planned nothing. I plan to reach out to the coordinator in December of this year, 18 months out, and begin really planning then. I would recommend 18 months (or more) for venue, photographer, and videographer if you plan to have one. I recommend 12 months for your dress, so that it can have time for alterations. Otherwise, anywhere from 18-6 months before is typically the heaviest planning period. If you plan to do a lot of DIY, the more time you give yourself the better. catering will come around 6 months out. Everything else, I would personally try to have done by the 6month out mark, but I’m type A and love to have my ducks in a row. Congrats and good luck!
