Wedding planner ?

Chelsey, on November 18, 2019 at 5:30 PM Posted in Planning 1 11
I’ve always been told to get a wedding planner because it will be so much easier ...

Has anyone done this what is your input ? Pros & cons ?
My FH isn’t a fan of this & says it sounds like a waste of money
Also is anyone else doing this why or why not ?

Honestly, I'm not sure it's worth it. What does sound worth it is a Day of Coordinator, since you won't want to be taking care of logistics in the middle of getting married. Our venue has a Coordinator included - I would look into that at least if nothing else. If your wedding is big enough though, it might be something to consider? I almost hired one because of my anxiety, but my FH calmed me down and we have a system now for wedding planning.

We had a full service wedding planner and it was completely worth it for us. But it’s not cheap and not for everyone. I wasn’t one of those brides who already had her wedding planned out or knew what colors and flowers I wanted. So it was helpful to have someone pick all of that stuff out. She communicated with all my vendors as well.

I don't think it is necessary to have a planner unless you are super busy that you don't have time to talk to vendors.
My FH & I are planning our wedding together. It's a special time for us and I feel like this whole process is bringing us closer together. And believe it or not even though we have been together for over 10 years we are learning new things about each other while planning and picking out things.

I suggest get a "day of" coordinator instead of a planner.

A day of coordinator is worth it. A full Service wedding planner I don't think is unless you've legit got zero time

I just have a day of coordinator which I think would be super helpful but not so much with a wedding planner. We planned everything and didn’t have any idea at first of what we wanted but it really wasn’t that hard. I guess it depends on the situation. My best friend had one because her wedding was in another state and that was super helpful for her

I hired one and now regretting it. You can easily do without one especially if you want to save the money.

We had a planner and day of coordinator and it was a great decision. It took a lot of the stress off of us. She took care of all our rentals, timelines, our day of set up and break down, and she kept our entire day running smoothly. It was money well spent, in my opinion.

I used to be a wedding planner. The thing I noticed was the people who benefited most from a full service coordinator was: 1) they were out of state 2) they had no idea where to start 3) they didn’t have a good support system to get through the planning 4) they were really overwhelmed.

All in all, if that doesn’t sound like you but you want to ease the stress of your wedding day (highly, highly recommend) I would get a day of coordinator.

I think it's personal preference. Personally, my FH and I have not hired a wedding planner and are doing everything ourselves. It is tougher and more stressful when you do not have the connections that wedding planners have but we are making it work. Our venue offers a coordinator to be there the day of the wedding to make sure everything is taken care of, but as far as catering, flowers, wedding favors, etc., we've had to do our own research and find our own vendors. We did ask friends of ours who recently got married for suggestions of vendors (which helped us pick almost all of our vendors), but there were a few we researched on our own. Much like your FH, mine also thought a wedding planner would be a waste of money. Honestly, we have had so much help planning from our families that I agree with my FH and I think we would've wasted money by hiring one.

We are planning our own and are having a lot of fun! I would maybe consider hiring a DOC, so you won't have to be the facilitator on your big day!
