Wedding Planner Pros and Cons

Tosha Fay, on October 13, 2019 at 10:50 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 20

I was wondering everyone's thoughts on hiring a wedding planner and if they are really worth the cost.

For me it was worth the cost because I needed help with a vision for flowers, decor, etc. I also did not want to deal with finding and communicating with vendors. Wedding planners are very expensive though so it depends on your budget.

I don't have a huge budget, but my job is so demanding that I do not think I can possibly keep up with everything.

It depends where you are location wise but I paid $12k for a full service planner in California. My friends in lower cost of living areas paid closer to $6k for a full service planner. If you can’t afford a planner then I would recommend a day of coordinator and an all inclusive venue if possible.

I have an AMAZING planner in LA and paid $2,000. He’s a full service planner and has made this whole process a breeze. I also have a crazy demanding job and needed the help. Everything is coming together perfectly and I couldn’t have done it without him! I definitely think it’s worth the money if you can swing it!

There’s a couple options. Wedding planners are knowledgeable with a whole array of wedding information. With that, they eliminate stress before you even know it’s there. You can also hire a day of coordinator. This is a service typically for people who have secured all or most of their vendors and would LOVE help tying up their loose ends!

$2k I can easily afford, but I was seeing prices of $7-15,000. I hope I can find a good one for an affordable price. It sounds like I should not be doing this without one!

It depends on you and your event really. Some places offer day of coordinators, which is helpful, but if you don’t have a large budget, instead maybe ask a friend who has a knack for it assist (maybe for a discounted rate, but that would have to be up to her) or if friends or family have volunteered to help take them up on their offers and divvy up the tasks. Event planners are very helpful especially for those with a busy schedule / not good with organization or event planning, but do add a significant cost.

Have you chosen your venue? If not, look into one that is either all inclusive or comes with a day of coordinator. If so, I recommend getting a DOC as you want to handle as little as possible on your day!

I’m a little biased... but YES a wedding planner is well worth it (as long as they’re good).

I think the bigger the wedding the more help you need.

I hired a partial planner because I have all my vendors chosen and she is mostly there for day of and month of coordination. Only paying 1800 for her and her team so I say it is well worth the money to not be stressed leading up to the day and on the day!

I have a full service planner since we are planning our wedding from thousands of miles away. She is great at coordinating things and suggesting vendors. Also keeping us on track. I would definitely recommend one, esp if you have a busy work schedule like I do. I paid $8500 for mine.

We had a long time to plan and found vendors early so we didn’t feel like we needed a full service but our “month of” was amazing. She helped organise the timeline and communicated with all our vendors for us. She was also our “day of” so handled everything on the wedding day. She also brought a ton of extra decor to fill our pretty big space. It meant less buying and storing things for us! If full service isn’t what you need I would look into what packages planners in your area have to see if something fits your situation.

I personally didn’t want a full wedding planner because I wanted to do all the talking and choose all vendors. Wedding planners tent to just bring to the team the people they work with based on budget and I didn’t want that. I hired a coordinator and that was worth every penny!

They're expensive. But they would take off a lot of planning duties for you.

I found a full service planner in ny for $2000 shes has alot of experience but only has been in business for herself for 4 years. I booked her 2 years out which helped to. I lost both my parents and explaining it every time i speak to a vendor gets me upset. Im also working mom with a crazy job and I need help with the design. I picked most of my vendors but having her take it all over is a blessing. I'm looking forward to this process even more because I have her on my side.

If you have a large budget, it's probably worth it. We had a ton of time to plan (19 months) so we didn't need one since I had a lot of time and am pretty organized. Plus I didn't want to dedicate $5,000-$15,000 on a planner.

My advice would be to definitely hire one!!! Even if it's just for the day of the wedding, I think it'd be worth it. The venue we chose had a coordinator who basically served as a planner and I was very grateful for that. But as the bride the last thing you want to do is be bothered with handling small things on your wedding day. For example, while we were in the procession line waiting to be introduced into the reception, the DJ came up to me to ask me what song we wanted for the mother/son dance. I was so upset because I was like really?! I don't even care, pick something. If we had a planner that's one thing that they could have taken care of. They can make sure vendors get tipped, keep everyone in order during photos, take care of small last minute details or issues that arise. I think planners are so great to have!
