Wedding Nightmares

Allie, on March 19, 2021 at 12:59 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 10

Okay ladies...I've seen this thread in the past, so I know I'm not the only one experiencing this! As our wedding gets closer, I've started to have some crazy dreams, like that my fiance changed his mind and no longer wants to get married or something goes wrong. But last night's takes the cake completely! I had a REALLY stressful day at work where everything felt everywhere, so I think that was part of the reason I had this crazy dream!

I dreamed that I was on my way to the wedding venue to get ready (which wouldn't happen because we are getting ready at my mom's house) when I realized that I forgot my jewelry at home. Some random teenage boy that I never met was nearby and told me he'd drive me home, so naturally I got back into a car with him and he took me home to get my jewelry. By the time I was back to the venue, all of them were dressed, made up, hair done...but they were wearing powder blue dresses and my color is burgundy. Not only that, but my MOH was wearing a silk gown when she was supposed to be in chiffon and one of my other bridesmaids was the completely wrong person...it was my MOH's friend Laura instead of my friend Laura! My friend Laura was nowhere to be found. So I was like okay, I can roll with this...I'm friends with other Laura. So I go into the venue to get my hair and makeup done but the hair stylist was completely gone and the makeup artist was packing up to leave and said she had no time for me! Even though I was the bride! So I thought okay, I'll just do my own makeup and leave my hair down. So I do that and I'm getting dressed and realize I have no shoes. My wedding shoes were missing. So I had to walk down the aisle barefoot.

It was WILD. I know none of this will happen because I've brought everything to my mom's house as I get it so I don't forget anything, my girls already pretty much have their gowns, my MOH's friend Laura lives in Michigan and I'm in Connecticut so that's quite a trip to take, and I have my actual every day hairdresser on call in case something goes wrong (she's a guest and is bringing all of her things in case the people I hired didn't work out). So thankfully I was able to laugh. But I want to know...what are some your craziest wedding nightmares as you get closer to your day?

My reception venue recently just fell through and I have been stressing about finding a new one in our budget that is available in time since the wedding is 11 months away. I had a dream that we weren't able to find a venue and we had to do it at this weird looking restaurant and it was a DISASTER! I know it was just the stress getting to me but it freaked me out! Luckily I think we have found a venue so I am a little less stressed lol

So I've only had a couple so far, and they've all been super wacky. I don't remember the details of most of them, but here's the one I do vaguely remember:

I was driving to the venue on the day of the wedding. (First problem: I'm staying in a hotel that shares a parking lot with my venue the night before. Absolutely no reason to drive from one parking space to another that's only about 6 spaces away...) It's about an hour before the ceremony starts, I don't have hair or makeup done, am not wearing my dress, still need to decorate, and decide we need to postpone the wedding by exactly one month. (Second problem: We're bringing the decorations to the rehearsal and the venue staff will be setting them up. Third problem: Postponing exactly one month is silly and would put the wedding on a weekday, which doesn't work for any of my bridal party.)

Fast-forward one month and I'm walking down the aisle alone. (Fourth problem: My dad will be walking me down the aisle.) I get down to the end, face my soon-to-be-spouse, hold hands, and the ceremony proceeds. About halfway through I realize that I'm standing up there, at a wedding that is definitely mine, with a woman I've never met before and not the man I'm engaged to. (Fifth problem: I'm a straight, cisgender female..... Sixth problem: HOW IN THE HELL DID I NOT REALIZE THE PERSON I WAS STANDING UP THERE WITH WASN'T JOHN?!) We go through with the ceremony and now I'm married to a random female whose name I still don't know. We're both kind of confused as to what's going on but figure we'll try to make the best of it since we're married now or whatever.

Then I woke up absolutely baffled beyond belief at what my brain had just fabricated. Just.....

Ah, the nightmares. I think we ALL experience at least one! My most recent was that the venue changed to a total dump, all the people who were there were strangers who had nothing whatsoever to do with the wedding, nothing was set up, my parents weren't there, no friends or family or GROOM were there, it was a mess. I was furious and upset, and thought "So this is how everyone really feels about me." I tried calling EVERYONE in my phone, but no one answered. I am standing there in my wedding dress, totally surrounded by strangers who don't even see me. It was awful.

Well I'm glad you found a venue! I'd probably feel the exact same way as you if something like that happened to me!

OMG this made me laugh SO HARD! I thought my dream was really out there, but this one might be a little more out there than mine! It's CRAZY what our brains imagine up when we are stressing about wedding things!

Thank goodness that's just a dream because that WOULD be awful if it happened! When I had my first wedding nightmare, I told my best friend about it and she reassured me that they are totally normal, they will probably be happening a lot more frequently, and to just remember they are dreams. So I got a sense of relief from that.

I keep have a dream that I have no chairs for ceremony or reception, that I'm trying to call places day of wedding to rent them.

When I actually called the company I'm using months ago, she was like you have plenty of time if you want to call us later. I told her absolutely not, im ready to sign a contract now, I have been having bad dreams about this 🤣
