Wedding Loan?! Help

Jessica, on November 12, 2019 at 7:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 33
So I’m having a relatively cheap wedding in a big city. $14k. Fiancé and I are paying for 9k and my mom is paying $5k. However she just got laid off and I have no idea how I’m going to come up with the $5k. I’ve considered pushing the wedding back but it will be too costly and Because of vendor contracts as well as refunding friends and family flights and reservations. The $5k would cover cake, catering and decor

Soo has anyone had experience in loans or preference?

Any other options for lump sum cash?

Ways to cut down costs?

Someone will get mad at me for saying this but you can shop around for a 0% interest credit card. Then put it on that and pay that down. I signed up for chase freedom

Maybe talk to your vendors and see if there is a lower priced package they could switch you to.. ex photographer for less hours, less decor, small cake and cupcakes instead of big cake.

I can’t imagine giving up my photography hours 😭😭😭 but makes sense. I like the idea of cupcakes. Maybe a cute stand. I was also thinking about giving up party favors. But I’m not sure how guests will feel.

Thank you I’ll look into that! I’m sad because this I didn’t wanna start off in debt and the honeymoon is already cancelled until further notice.

We put a good portion of ours on my husband's credit card since I lost my job three months prior to the wedding. We have been making payments every month in order to pay off the credit card.

Along with the credit card idea ..you are likely to get a lot of cash for the wedding. You could always vouch that you and FH will take any money you get and put it to pay off the CC if that’s the option you choose

Don't feel bad about no favors! So many people never even remember to take them and ummm you're already feeding and entertaining your friends and family. They're there for you, not MORE free stuff! 😋

I think you will be okay without favors.
Or if you must have it pick something inexpensive.

You definitely dont need favors so I think that's a good way to cut costs! We had a similar issue and ended up getting a cake from walmart instead of the 600 dollar bakery cake and it actually turned out great. Whole foods and public do them as well! I attached a picture of our walmart cake. Also, I bet there are some areas you can cut back on decor, try to simplify or find lower cost options. What kind of decor do you still need to get?

Did you get cash from a honeymoon fund online? Or they leave it in the gift box at a wedding?

I was so against this at first but now I’m like that’s the first area to cut costs ! It looks lovely. I signed a contract with a rental company. They provided the linen, glassware, centerpieces, fake florals. I can definitely cut back. My guest count is 180 so that will also be a great way to save money. We just have huge families. I have 5 brothers and sisters and he has 6. Lol

I think it’s just common for people to give cash gifts at weddings.

Are cars are edging the end of warranty so that’s not an option but yeah I was planning on picking up part time at a bridal salon. Seems fun! Just a bit harder during holiday season. Thank you!

Definitely cut the favors. They’re an unneeded expense and guests won’t notice they’re missing.

Definitely give up the party favors! Guests are there to see you and FH, not for a goody.

I agree with pps lose the favors, smaller cake, and also think about buying things like invites on sale. Another money saver is cutting back on flowers. If you can’t do something besides flowers for your centerpieces it will save a lot.

I totally understand. I think the 0% interest buys you time. Some people continue adding cards to continue the 0% interest. Do what works for you.

You definitely don’t need favors! You can also look at Nothing But Bundt cakes which are delicious and maybe less than cupcakes, or a one-tier cake for cutting and a sheet cake to serve guests.

Did you already sign a catering package? Maybe you can cut back there too?
