Wedding in Oahu

Samantha, on May 15, 2019 at 5:06 PM Posted in Hawaii Planning 1 5
Hello Everyone,

My fiance and I are getting married in Oahu next June 2020 and we have already selected a wedding planning company called Weddings of Hawaii and a wedding cake company named A Cake Life. Now we are looking into reception locations or catering companies, along with a florist and a few other wedding decor places. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start looking or who to contact ? Also, has anyone personally worked with Wedfings of Hawaii or A Cake Life ??

Thanks,

Samantha Fontenot

I live here on Oahu so if you have any questions about spots or companies, feel free to PM me.

As as far as venues, it really depends on your budget. A venue can be 2,500-50,000 here.

I went with CakeWorks for my cake and have a day of coordinator for my planner.

I also forgot to mention that my fiancé and I are opening a brewery here in Oahu. We will be having our reception in our brewery June 2019 and will definitely be fully operational by June 2020. If that sounds like it may be a fun venue for you, let me know! I can send pictures of how ours turned out.

Its a 10,000 sq/ft space that will be a fully functioning production brewery with a taproom and restaurant space, full kitchen, and a mezzanine space.

    Hi Chrissie,

Thank you so much for your response. The brewery option for a reception sounds really fun and rustic I like the idea. Also, do you know if we would need a permit to have a reception on Kahala Beach? We are getting married at Waialae Beach and I know those two beaches aren't to far from each other. We are honestly trying to avoid having to book our reception at a high priced restaurant or location in Waikiki for only a group of 30 or less.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

We were looking into those options too. I wanted to have an outdoor wedding but reception in the brewery we built together so I didn't want to have to spend a ton on a venue we were only going to use for a couple hours. (I ended up going with the Muliwai deck at the prince hotel because the price was just 1250 at the time)

Beaches here are public, but you need a permit from the city. We used to go to Kahala beach all the time because it's super close to his parents house - but I have to say it's my least favorite. Extremely windy, water not so clear, and steep runoff. Theres also not a lot of beach space along Kahala beach - about 5 ft from sand to wave. If you go the beach direction and are curious about other beaches here, I'm happy to help Smiley smile

...and if you have further questions about the brewery, you can email me at ********@**************.*** .

Hi Samantha, congratulations on your engagement! I haven't worked with Weddings of Hawaii personally, but A Cake Life is awesome and one of the best bakers on Oahu! To help you get started with thinking about your reception venue, first you'll need to determine how many people it will need to accommodate. If you're going with a hotel, they have their own in-house catering department, thus that's one less different company you'll have to research and select (and you might want to note that there's usually a cake service fee of about $2/person, which typically can be avoided if you opt for cupcakes/finger desserts for your guests - just gotta ask what the restrictions are with your actual venue). Also, depending on where you select for your venue, you'll need to ask if they have a vendors list you're required to hire from. Most places don't (but they can offer you their curated list of suggestions), but there are some that ask you to choose only from their approved list. For example, you mentioned being interested in a rustic-style venue? Sunset Ranch is absolutely gorgeous, but one of the venues here that you'll need to use their approved list of vendors. In many ways, this makes your search process much easier because their list of vendors are people they've vetted and highly recommend - and their list will likely include the other companies you're still searching for (i.e. caterer, florist, decor, etc).

I'm starting a new resource specifically for Hawaii weddings and though it isn't launched yet, it will be available to the public starting from August 2019. Feel free to follow on instagram @hawaiiwedpedia if you'd like to see our future updates Smiley laugh
