Wedding for 20 guests Raffle yay or nay

Rosilus, on February 1, 2021 at 7:47 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14

I was thinking besides dancing another form of entertainment I could use is maybe raffling my centerpieces. Basically i put a number under each chair and call out a number as I pull it out a box and whoever sits in that chair will win the centerpiece to that table. What do you ladies say to that? I would do this for each table 5 tables 4 guest per table. With such a small group my fiance and I think this would be a good idea. Also as favors We are gonna provide a photo of us both in a nice pic frames along with a nice beach scented candle as favors to the guest as well as a thank you.

I wouldn't call that entertainment but you can definitely do that if you wish. Most couples give centerpieces to whoever wants them. And guests don't take home favors unless they are edible.

As a guest, I'd probably find this a bit strange. I also wouldn't do favors unless they're edible.

As a guest I wouldn't be excited about taking home a centerpiece.

I know some people who like taking the centerpiece home but usually the people at the table just figure it out easily cause it’s not a whole lot of people who want it

My cousin did something similar for her baby shower - put a sticker under one chair at each table and whoever sat there got the centerpiece. My grandma started telling people as they walked in so people were hilariously fighting over chairs. But this entertainment lasted all of 5 minutes and at the end of the day, whoever wanted a centerpiece took one. Most guys would probably not be too thrilled with winning a centerpiece honestly

My cousin got married on Halloween. Her centerpieces were full of candy. I think she raffled them off. I don’t remember how but I know I got one. My mom and sister raffled off the lantern centerpieces from my shower. I think they just put names in a jar. It could be fun. As a guest I probably wouldn’t be super excited for a floral centerpiece, but something I could keep and reuse would be cool (candles, jars, lanterns etc)

No offense, but a framed photo of the two of you for your guests isn’t exactly a gift. I would also find raffling centerpieces strange as most people give them away anyway if they’re able to.

I wouldn't do that. After the event, centerpieces are generally taken by whoever wants them, and they're usually left over. You're treating a used, no longer needed item as a prize, as if they're centerpieces that were once in a celebrity's home.

I'd also skip the framed photos as favors. Most people don't keep framed wedding photos of other people unless it's of their kids or themselves.
Between raffling off used centerpieces and giving away framed photos of yourselves, this all gives off a very narcicisstic vibe. Not saying that you are. It's just odd on odd.

I am anticipating on guests taking centrepieces home (any leftover I will donate the next day) and we will make an announcement at the end of the night that guests can take them home. Personally, I don’t like the idea of doing a raffle for centrepieces nor do I think it would be entertaining. Dancing is pretty entertaining in itself.

I also agree with PPs that a framed photo of you and your partner may not be such a good idea. Honestly, for your family I'd understand but I can almost guarantee you that your friends will either toss it or take the photo out and use the frame.

I’m am not a huge fan of this idea. It makes your wedding reception seem like a corporate or charity event.

I agree with PP about the photo- that actually stood out to me the most. I would find this strange. I think the candle is a nice favor (people prefer edible but I am personally a huge candle person and, like edible favors, a candle gets used up and gone.) Skip the photo & frame and save money Smiley smile

I also agree about the raffle. Sorry, OP. If you're having dancing I wouldn't worry about entertainment- people mingle and socialize. If you were worried about COVID restrictions or limiting dancing for COVID reasons, I'd suggest a more classic thing like the shoe game or something Smiley smile
