Wedding Flowers

Mary, on November 12, 2020 at 7:36 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 3 32

Anyone else finding that flowers really break the budget? I just got the estimate from our florist, and as much as I love everything we discussed and planned, it is just way out of my budget. My wedding coordinator and I had a chat and got creative and we are going to be doing feather bouquets for the bridesmaids and feather boutonnieres for the groomsmen.

Anyone have any further ideas of how to keep the costs down or things that you did/are doing that you loved? Thank you!

    Keep everything in season.

Fiftyflowers.com has fresh flowers cheaper than silk/wood flowers

Good point. I am getting married in a month from today and all my flowers for my bridal bouquet are winter flowers. Honesty, winter has some stunning options. 😍🤗

I agree with using in season flowers. I was also able to use all of my ceremony flowers in my reception. My florist stayed and moved them to the reception area while everyone was having cocktail hour. Just a thought if you are doing both in the same location.

Yes! We opted to rent our flowers for this reason. We are using Something Borrowed Blooms and I am so happy about it because it is way way less expensive than any other options. I also didn’t like the idea of all those flowers going to waste.

My stepmom, FMIL & I are going shopping next weekend for fake flowers for the small bouquets for the bridesmaids & an arrangement for the gazebo where the ceremony will be. My fiancé hasn’t decided if he wants him & the groomsmen to wear pocket squares or boutonnières. Our centerpieces don’t have any flowers in them which saves $$$.

Not sure if you have a preference of fake/silk flowers or real flowers. I went to hobby lobby they just happened to have a 50% off sale on flowers, I got my flowers from there. Then I dropped them off to a local florist, they cut, arrange. They also add real leaves and baby’s breath; in total I spent $350. This included 3 bouquets, 5 boutonnière and 2 corsages.
I had to get a little creative lol I just couldn’t see myself spending too much on flowers

I had the same issue where the flowers I wanted ended up being almost double my budget. So I'm alternating centerpieces at each table, half being regular flowers and half being floating candles with greenery around them. Im also having the bridesmaids have single flower boutiques with extra greenery to bring in the volume but bring down the price. Both of those alone took out a big chunk of the cost. But DIYing is a great alternative and much cheaper. I originally planned on ordering through kukka flowers, they're all real but you arrange everything yourself. I just didn't want such a big project before the wedding so I'm paying for the convenience. And like the other ladies said, there are many alternatives to real flowers as well that still look great and are worth looking into.

We told our florist "this is what we want and this is what we are willing to pay". After some back and fourth on designs, we got exactly what we wanted within our budget. So my advice is once you find a florist you like that is reasonably priced, negotiate with them.

How many flowers are you looking for? Centerpieces too, or just bouquets?

We are doing non-floral centerpieces and are planning to get flowers from Trader Joe's and arrange them ourselves. Should be about $300 or so.

I agree with others, it’s painfully expensive. I also suggest Hobby Lobby. I think they still have coupons that you can print out as well.

My wedding coordinator ordered fresh flowers online and did all of the arrangements herself. We paid $300 for the flowers and extra time she spent. If someone can manage to make arrangements, it really helps with the cost!

We're going with a florist that's fresh out of college and relatively new to the wedding industry & floral scene! Often times vendors that are just starting out are a lot cheaper than those that have been doing it for years.

We're only having the groom wear a boutonniere, the mom's and gmom's are carrying a single flower. For our gift table and guest book table, after the ceremony we're going to take my bridesmaid's bouquets and place them in a vase on the tables for extra decor. Our venue also has a ton of faux garlands and florals/greenery that we can use for free, so that will save us money too!

Our wedding is very minimalistic, so we didn't need a large amount of florals anyways, so that saved us a ton of money as well!

Yep! Had this EXACT experience! Due to COVID a ton of guests didn't attend so we put the savings toward the florist. But we lovelovelove plants so it was sort of like, "woohoo!"

$300 is where we are too. We have my bridal bouquet ($280! Yikes) and my FH's boutonniere ($20). The rest will be feather corsages, boutonnieres and small fans for the bridesmaids. Our tables will have cheese cloth died dark emerald green with tea lights, brass candle sticks and a few vases with feathers as well. Should be very simple, but elegant.

Covid has been helping us out as well! haha! We have had to change plans dramatically, going from 75 guests to 35. And because of that, we are saving so much money. All our extra money will go into a fund to plan our big reception in the summer though, so no more money for my flower budget. I am happy with what we did decide though for our flowers and our flower alternatives. It should be very lovely and simple. Smiley heart
