Wedding favors something edible or souvenir

Rosilus, on February 2, 2021 at 9:22 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 19

Hello all Yes I am back again. Just want to know what ideas would be good for wedding favors. I will be getting married on the beach so a beach theme. However my colors are royal blue silver and white. I've read alot of posts and see alot of people say something "edible". While that may sound good you are eating at the reception what more can I give you to take to "eat" again? It may sound a little odd to me but I have researched different things on etsy, pinterest etc I have a very small group less than 30 just looking for ideas that would be a good favor for guests to go with that they don't have to eat. I personally would not want a favor that I would eat. I would prefer the favor to be something the guest can remember my wedding by. All feedback is appreciated.

google definition

Wedding favors are small gifts given as a gesture of appreciation or gratitude to guests from the bride and groom during a wedding ceremony or a wedding reception.

I think this truly depends on the relationship between you and your guests. I personally would not keep favors that have the couple’s name and wedding date for all of the weddings I have been to. However, if it was a close family member I may. Edible gifts have a much higher likelihood of being taken. For my wedding I am giving out personalized cups of Dō (edible cookie dough) that say “D & M say I Dō.” Guests can choose to eat it at the wedding or take it home.

I'm also in NJ, and the trend has really moved to something edible, at least for all the weddings I've attended in recent years. Or, many people just skip favors completely. Usually the edible is like a cookie that is wrapped and guests can take to eat later. Since you're getting married at the jersey shore, maybe some locally made salt water taffy? For the most part, people don't usually take non-edible favors because they don't really want more "stuff." Like, I recently threw out a bunch of wedding favor shot glasses and the like that I've had for years because I ended up taking 1 since the couple spent money on it and I felt bad not taking one, didn't want it, felt guilty throwing it out right away, so it sat in a cupboard unused for a few years until the guilt subsided. People typically remember the wedding by pictures they take at the wedding. If you can think of a great favor you know each guest would enjoy, go for it. It's a bit easier to do that with a guest list of 30 compared to a guest list of 100+.

I agree that edible favors seem to be more popular, though it truly does depend on your guests. Personally, I have a few shot glasses and koozies from weddings I've attended that my fiance and I still use. However, I know of other people who do not use them. With edible favors, if you choose a candy, many people will likely take it, though you may have some who don't eat sweets and will skip it. It's tough to find something that 100% of your guests want. I like the idea of things like a deck of cards, or a picture frame that has a generic love quote or a cute design (avoid putting your name/wedding date on the picture frame itself though - most guests probably wouldn't put a picture of their kids or a picture of themselves in a frame with someone else's name/wedding date on it), or anything edible. For most non-edible favors, I would avoid putting your name/wedding date on the item itself (though on the packaging is totally fine!).

To be 100% completely honest, I think favors in general are unnecessary. All too often they're left behind (especially one's branded with your names/dates). Even food favors, unless they're placed at a guests seat are often forgotten. As a wedding coordinator I've seen branded beer cozies, succulent plants, plantable sunflower seeds, edible sunflower seeds, custom high end chocolates, and more left behind in huge batches.

Take the money you would spend on favors and invest it somewhere else into the guest experience by either upgrading your food/alcohol/dessert, or depending on how many guests hire additional entertainment or upgrade your DJ services.

I agree with you! The majority of people on here will say do edible favors or no favors at all since they'll get left behind. I've always liked non edible favors I've received at weddings that have some kind of meaning more than m&ms or hershey kisses or donuts that aren't "special" in any way.

A few favors I've gotten and liked - candles, a succulent plant (bride and groom love plants), mini olive oil bottles with different flavors (wedding was in the outer banks and they bought local), koozie/shot glasses that I used both at the wedding and at my own house afterwards. My FH and I love the casino so we're doing a deck of playing cards as our favors. We're getting exactly enough or maybe a few less so that there aren't a ton of left over. If you don't take one or don't use it, I won't be offended. May sound narcissistic, but we're satisfied knowing we're offering you a favor that means something to us for OUR wedding.

I plan on doing a photobooth, and will probably get some cheap holders if they want to use those for their pictures. A photobooth on a beach doesn't sound that easy, but what if you did a poloroid picture type booth. Get some instapix cameras, and make a "frame" that says your names and date.
Over the years the only favors I ever kept were photobooth strips. I went to a wedding where each place at the table had a cute laser cut of your name. I kept that, but i saw lots left behind or broken.

Everyone is different but I would like something like cookies or gourmet popcorn.

The only wedding favors I tend to keep are coozies.

Edible is the best way to go. They can snack on them later on in at the reception or take them home. Souvenir style wedding favors more than half get left behind or tossed, making it a total waste of money.

I’ve seen customized shells, mini sunscreen keychains, sunglasses or anchor bottle can openers on Pinterest if you’re interested in a non-edible option! However I will say that edible favors are a big hit right now as people generally get better use out of them. I’m from Maryland and having a beach wedding so we were thinking about little customized jars of Old Bay for ours, but there are definitely a lot of cute alternatives on Pinterest and Etsy if you don’t want anything food related!

As a guest, I would be extremely happy to receive either of these as favors! Edible is definitely the way to go Smiley smile

I’m having a fall wedding and will have little jars of honey or jam, or both. Honestly most weddings I’ve been to all have the same favors, key bottle openers, beer koozies with their name and date. Just stuff going to sit in a junk drawer or end up in the trash. Better to spend your money on something guests can eat/use so your money isn’t wasted.

You can buy favor bags at Michael’s that are a fine mesh drawstring type bag and put chocolate shells inside that you can make yourself or buy online

Something edible! I think I would only keep a personalised wedding favor of my best friends... which is only a handful of people. What we did was give edible favors then send personalised coasters to people close to us who helped out... those were also the people who we really cared about and would've kept those personalised coasters.

If it is not edible, ir will be left behind or immediately tossed out. I have even seen edible favors left behind contrary to popular belief and they were not inexpensive. Save your money for a rainy day or put it toward food/open bar/extra hour for dj/better photos and video that you and guests will remember. If you decide to do non-edible favors, only you and your parents will keep them. Everyone else will throw them away no matter how much they love you.
