Wedding Dress & Dirt - Need Ideas!

Briana, on October 3, 2020 at 6:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 8
Hey! So we’re looking at a venue where the ceremony would be on a dirt path. Is there anything I could put on a dress to help keep it from just turning black? Maybe I could get a wider aisle runner instead? These are hypotheticals, I don’t have a dress or the venue secured yet - but I’m looking at the scenario in case we pick it (or don’t because of this).

Maybe I just don’t have a train that drags? Looking for some creative options on this one because we love the venue and ceremony location, just not the most idea ground condition.
Plus, I do plan on wearing the dress after the wedding to the barn to do a photo shoot with my horse so dirty is not the end of the world, I’d just rather it maybe not be black by the end of the wedding. (If that’s even possible)

I wouldn’t worry too much about the bottom of the dress getting dirty, it likely will regardless of being indoor or outdoor if it’s floor length. Slight retouching can always be done if needed but I doubt it will be anything noticeable. An aisle runner is also a good idea depending on the vibe you’re going for.

Yeah, that’s fair, we’ll be in a deer forest at a zoo and it’s just all dirt. I saw some photos from another wedding there and the bottom of her dress and like part way up was brown during the photos due to all the dirt - so I’m just trying to avoid that 😂 lol!

Not counting bridal gown trains that are supposed to drag, standard formal length hem is 2 inches above the ground, above just the toe of the shoe. If neither your dress train nor veil drags, meaning you likely have the whole dress hemmed just above the floor, the only train you can have is a detachable one that you lift to the side o er one arm. They fasten at just behind the shoulder seam, back bra line, or above waist, so they are easily swept aside, and most manufacturers will even make the hem to fit you and go just above the floor, custom order. Particularly if there is a pattern, or lace, or a scalloped bottom, it is easier to reshape the bottom at manufacture.
Otherwise, pick a dress with no train. Many sold as destination gowns, this is why, level above ground bottom. With this, a 4' wide runner minimum, or a wooden walkway they assemble under a runner, is necessary. I wanted to fance on the cobblestone patio and carriageway behind our inn, So Maggie Sottero did a made to me hem, and a detachable train in back just below the shoulder blades. I took the tain off for later dancing after dinner. But wanted it for pictures. And on a finger loop, not bustled, for the firstcouple dances. Then, off for dinner, mire vigorous dancing. So even if you do it because of the pathway, a prehemmed to your measure gown and a detachable train save the hemming and bustling cost, a trade off. And at most outdoor places, it is nice to have a train you take off as easily as a wrap. a few hooks and eyes. A long dress over an uncovered path will be trashed 4-8 inches up the skirt, if the dirt is moist. This water, even dampness, wicks up like on a coffee filter.

When you are in a light gown, in a deer area, unless the forest janitor jas been by, you have deer pee from the night before. No worse than city sidewalks. But you would not want to drag fine fabric there either. If you have trouble finding just abo e the floor designs, Maggie Sottero, Jasmine Bridal, and Azazie are the most acomodating about custom order to your height. The other thing, depending on your body type, is a tea length or ballet length gown.

Ooo yeah... I wore a tea length dress but it was daytime so it was appropriate for the vibe. Hmm...I’d say an aisle runner and then hopefully you’re good if not photoshop can at least help pictures.

I was curious if there was something out there that like - repels the dirt! I definitely think not dragging a train or having a removable one for photos is the way to go. But there’s like stain protectant for white shoes so I wasn’t sure if there was something similar out there for dresses! Just a little added protection

I think this is a cute alternative to a standard aisle runner.
