Not at all. We decided to get a 6” for us and mini cupcakes for guests.

My friends had pie at their wedding

Nothing about weddings is mandatory aside from a license.

It’s tradition but not mandatory. People have pies, cookies, or donuts.

You don’t even need a cake if that’s not what you want. It’s your day and you should have whatever makes you and your FH happy.

    What Chandra said.

Weddings *require*: a marrying couple, a license, and usually a witness.

And you should feed your witness to be polite.

    Anything else is optional/extra/for fun.

We had cake, but also a dessert table provided by the caterer. People do candy bars, s'mores bars, ice cream bars, cupcakes, cakes, cookies...

Cakes and cupcakes are the same recipe. So if you aren't a cake person, serve a different dessert entirely like pies/cobblers, cookies, etc

It’s not mandatory. It’s actually something that we’re skipping. It has a long history and was first done for more practical reasons, but all of that is outdated today. It’s nice to serve guests dessert after a meal, though. While you don’t have to, you could easily pick another dessert or multiple other options!

From what I know, wedding cakes originated as a way of people showing off their wealth because sugar and confectionery items were historically expensive.
I’m having wedding cake because I love the tradition (and you don’t need to ask me twice to have cake!!) but it’s definitely not a must.

We are not having a wedding cake. It is absolutely not mandatory if you don't want one.

It's not. It's just an easy way to provide dessert for like 100 people.
