Wedding cake help

Katie, on April 5, 2021 at 2:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
I am not a huge fan of cake. I cam eat a small amount here and there. That being said I WANT a wedding cake. I jistndomt know what flavor combo to do. I know I want a naked or semi naked cake. I don't want the same boring flavors. Does anyone have any inspiration or really good flavor combos to share. I am 45 days out and need to decide fairly soon.

If you’re 45 days out, I would hurry to find a baker. They can provide you with flavor options, but you need to lock someone down NOW.

Why don't you ask her for recommendations? Does she have samples available?

They should have flavors they recommend or typically work with. Have you looked on their website or social media for examples or ideas?

Fruit filling (strawberry/blackberry/raspberry/blueberry) with champagne flavor frosting is popular for weddings, and not something you’d find for a birthday cake. Do you have other desserts you like and can use as inspiration? Maybe cannoli? Or even cotton candy? Chai and pistachio are newer flavors that haven’t worked into the mainstream. Then there’s red velvet which is headed out on popularity because the color is dramatic and doesn’t ‘go’ with a lot of themes. Carrot cake is a classic party flavor and uncommon at weddings, but always a hit.
Mines lemon cake with raspberry filling- I like that it’s refreshing and not too heavy.

Thank you so much for some ideas. I was thinking lemon and coconut but wasn't sure how that would go. Lemon and blueberries might be good. I never thought of pistachio, that sounds interesting

Lemon and coconut sounds really yummy!

I’ve heard that pistachio can get dry like chocolate cake can, so you would probably want to try that first before going with it. I think blueberry/lemon/coconut wouldn’t be as risky

You can always do different flavors for different tiers!

My favorite flavor combo is chocolate and raspberry. So, I would do chocolate cake with raspberry filling.

Lemon and blueberry is an awesome combo but coconut is also a good choice since the coconut often also helps keep the cake from being too dry. I would also second the opinion that carrot cake is underrated! I worked at a very, very good bakery and the manager got a carrot cake with cream cheese icing between the layers for her wedding cake since it was not too sweet and also wasn't the standard chocolate or vanilla.

We did vanilla cake and vanilla frosting with different fillings (we had 4 tiers):
Passionfruit-BlackberryPina Colada (Pineapple, Coconut, Rum flavor)Chocolate-Cappucino
I absolutely loved all three. But I think the passionfruit got most compliments - probably because it's unusual and very fruity and refreshing.
But I think with fruit and/or chocolate you can't go wrong.

It depends on if you're wanting a crowd-pleaser or not.

Coconut is very divisive. People either like it, or they don't. Whenever I've seen coconut at weddings - and that is very rare, in my five years as a vendor I saw it maybe twice - only about 15-20% of the guest list ate it.

You can't go wrong with chocolate or vanilla, and you can jazz vanilla up with a unique filling. Vanilla with a lemon mousse filling would be light and summery and unexpected. Could also add some fresh slice strawberries.

I've also seen almond cake, instead of vanilla. I haven't tried it, but this is a popular one. Just be aware if any guests have a tree nut allergy.
