Wearing white to someone else's bridal shower?

Melissa, on April 27, 2023 at 11:32 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 7

I don't really wear dresses a lot. I have a white skater dress I wanted to wear with a brown belt and jean jacket crop and brown boots. But then I got thinking about it, and I was wondering if there is a whole thing about "don't wear white" to a bridal shower like there is to a wedding? Is that a thing for a bridal shower?

No, guests can wear any color they choose to a bridal shower. Many brides these days don’t even wear white their showers anymore.

Thanks for the input! I'm really hoping that the other colors kind of tone down the white so no one feels offended. I only have a couple dresses and I just spent money on a formal dress to attend people's weddings this year plus my own wedding dress, so I don't want to buy another dress lol.

I couldn’t imagine anyone being offended by that. And I don’t blame you for not wanting to spend more money on dresses (especially after just dropping money on your wedding dress)!

A lot of people in my social feeds seem to be having showers right now and every one of them has worn white despite cece’s comment. I think it varies and there are plenty of brides that still do wear white to their shower. However I totally get where you’re coming from on buying more dresses and because it’s just the shower and not the actual wedding it’ll be fine. Especially with the rest of the outfit you’ve described. I wouldn’t think twice if someone wore white to my shower if I had one but I didn’t care if someone wore white to my wedding lol. I’m very laid back 😂

Despite what some brides do, wearing white to a shower is not traditional and there is no “ban” on it for guests. I’ve actually never been to a shower where the bride to be wore all white.

I've seen many bridal showers where the bride wore white, but I've also seen bridal showers where the bride did not wear white. I don't think your outfit sounds like it would offend anyone, but maybe run it past the bride to see if she's OK with it?

As long as you have colorful accessories to go with it, you should be fine. Even a nice top and dressy pants are appropriate if you are not a dress person. Many women don’t wear dresses ever in their lives and that is valid, so there is no reason to go outside of your comfort zone. In our families and social circles, the bride doesn’t wear white to any pre-wedding events at all, even the rehearsal dinner, and most don’t wear dresses to those events. Those are only seen in the movies, where we are.
