Ways to celebrate our original wedding date?

April, on March 26, 2020 at 2:12 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13
My fiancé and I were supposed to get married this Saturday but were forced to cancel due to COVID 19. It’s been a rough few weeks and I would love to still somehow mark the occasion rather than spend the whole day moping around. We live in California so we’re currently on full lockdown and my city just announced even the parks and beaches are closed to the public. Can anyone recommend some ideas for how we can commemorate the day? I’ve been so down lately that nothing sounds fun and with everything being closed besides the grocery stores, our options are limited. Thank you!!

It might be kind of cute to have a personal mock ceremony with the two of you at home. Get some flowers from the grocery store, some champagne, and wear your dress (or white if you want to save your dress for the actual wedding). Then you guys can share your vows and do your own ceremony. Take lots of pictures and commemorate your pseudo ceremony in lockdown. Then find a wedding playlist on YouTube and DANCE! Eat yummy food and don’t forget to grab a cake at the grocery store. You’ll have great stories to tell your kids and grandkids! Of course it won’t be legal but you can take control of the day and have a special memory you’ll never forget.

We are still marrying on our original date privately. I plan on ordering a mini wedding cake and we will have a intimate celebration together afterwards.

Every time I read a bride has postponed or canceled, my heart just rips apart. I'm so sorry you had to make that decision. Maybe you can get some take out of your faves, pick up some sweets (donuts would be my go to right now), some bubbly and just celebrate health and new beginnings. Get a playlist going and dance until your feet hurt!

Cook a nice dinner together and then curl up and watch a funny wedding movie. If any restaurants are open for takeout or delivery have something delivered!

I sure can relate. 26 days and counting for us and it doesn't look like we can even get our license. I so want our date....I read the suggestion above about a mock ceremony, maybe that would bring the happy back!

Can I ask you what state you are in? We are also planning on having a private ceremony on our original date, but can't find any town clerk open to issue a marriage license.

NJ. Everything is shutdown but we ran in and got our marriage license when we suspected a shutdown was coming.

My fiancé and I are getting married on our original date (4.24). Our photographer will be helping us document this with some pictures; I’ll be wearing my bridal shower dress (cancelled). I’m also ordering custom Mr. and Mrs. Quarantined shirts for a funny twist. I, too, have ordered a 6” round from our baker in my fiancé’s favorite flavor (total surprise) and was going to order a really nice meal (maybe from our first date restaurant?).

I think your fiancé should take the lead on this one. You seem down about it. 😔 And I don't blame you. Decorate the living room with candles and have flowers delivered and order food, drink your favorite beverage and wear an outfit you planned to wear on your honeymoon and treat it like your wedding night!

I've been reading a few articles about what adults/ couples should do in isolation and they said make a tent and be silly!
I hope one of our ideas inspire you!

I hope you definitely celebrate on Saturday, April. Maybe grab a cake from the grocery store, dance to your first dance song, and have a date night in. You could even dress up if it would help you feel more like celebrating.

You're not alone, a lot of other couples are also trying to find ways to celebrate their original date -

Rescheduled wedding - what are you doing on that day?

For those brides postponing how are you honoring your initial date?
