Wax seal for invitations

Katherine, on August 19, 2021 at 5:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
If anyone is doing wax seals for their invitations where did you get the wax from? Definitely don't want to spend a ton. Also if anyone did two colors how did it turn out?

I did for my save the dates, but they all got ruined in the mail Smiley sad They were all scraped off and you couldn't even tell what the design was. I was devastated because I spent so long adding the seals to each envelope!

Oh no! That's awful!! My invitations didn't come with envelopes and I don't really want to use the plain sticker.

I got my wax from Amazon I used them for our STDs. But they were placed in a box and shipped with a smaller box so they wouldn’t get ruined. I also had a bow tied over it. Wax seal for invitations 1

We did black and champagne/gold but we didn’t mix it. I did some experimenting at the end and you have to time it just right (as soon as the colors melt) or you will just end up with a new color or darker/lighter color.

I use wax seals regularly when I give cards and we will use them to seal our invitation bundle.

The cheapest place to find wax is via amazon or ebay and I've found the quality to be just the same as the high end stores.

I wouldn't recommend mixing colours though - I've been doing this for years now and they can be quite fiddly enough as is let alone with the complication of mixed colours.

I got mine off of Amazon as well as a dual temp hot glue gun for it. I just did mine and I'm trying to figure out how to safely send them in the mail now 🙄

We haven't yet sent out invitations but to avoid them being tarnished, we will be putting the seal on a ribbon which will act as a belly band (rather than sealing the envelopes).

If using wax seals to seal the envelope, it would be best to put this on the 'inner envelope' and mail the invitations in an outer envelope to avoid damage in transit.

To avoid damage, double envelope them and when you take them to the post office you can pay more money to not send them through the rollers which is what causes damage to the wax seals. You just have to ask your local post office they will know what to do.

I bought my wax on amazon abd folded some paper over the invite rsvp etc sealed that with the wax then put the entire thing into an envelope. I had done some research and on the outside of the envelope the wax getting damaged or scraped off is common.

We used adhesive wax seals from Artisaire, and paid extra for hand stamp ($.20 each?). They mailed out well. We would have tried an authentic stamp, but had difficulty finding supplies and time.

Did you use an outer envelope for these? Or have them hand canceled?

I didn't use an outside envelope. I bought a US postal service stamp to pay for hand canceling.

Awesome! I'm glad you had success with that. I'm so nervous to mail these out. We had our envelopes preprinted with info so I don't want to redo these outer envelopes 😐
