It's unfortunate that there's a spike in violence over there, but it's just good sense to be somewhat cautious in all places. Anything can happen anywhere, seriously.

FH refused to go to Mexico once Trump got in & started talking about the wall again. Personally, I didn't think too much about; but agreed we'd go elsewhere. We choose Punta Cana; but even there...they tell you to stay on the resort unless you are with a guide.

I just think it's important to be aware, regardless of location.

Yikes. Of course we just booked our honeymoon last week to Riviera Maya which i believe is in Quintana Roo.

Unfortunately, @Catti is right. As we have seen all too much lately, there are incidents of violence and terror all over the world where innocent lives are claimed. It's just good to be aware and as prepared as you can be. It's a sad world we live in.

I went to Puerta Vallarta the day after the election and am going to Cabo in November and Cancun in January. I'll take my chances.

Oh whatever there's violence everywhere. You just gotta be smart about what you do while abroad. I feel like this is some Trump shit to scare people.

We actually ruled out Mexico for our honeymoon as soon as Trump took office. We didn't want to take any chances of needing to change plans last minute. I'm glad we did.

I go to Cabo every year. We will be honeymooning there in a few short weeks. I am not worried. You need to be careful anywhere, not just Mexico. I have made friends with a lot of locals who say it is worse then it has been in previous years...but not as bad as they are making it sound.

FWIW, i haven't seen any anti-American sentiment in the touristy parts of Mexico. Having said that, people do get subtly friendlier when they find out we're Canadian.

Here are a couple of great articles about the recent travel warnings. I travel to Mexico a couple of times a year. We have clients in Mexico year round. We've never had anyone come home with anything worse than a hangover and a sunburn. It's a beautiful destination! But just like your home town, Mexico has good neighborhoods and bad ones. You just have to practice the same common sense safety you follow at home.
