Walking Myself Down the Aisle?

FutureMrs.C, on October 24, 2019 at 12:02 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 15

Hi!

So, without getting too into it, I don't really have anyone who could walk me down the aisle. My sister suggested that my brother could do it, but honestly that just feels weird to me. Given my circumstances, I kind of just want to walk down the aisle by myself. We're having a small wedding anyway, so i don't think it'd be a big deal. However, I'm very very self-conscious and nervous about it. I'm afraid that it'll be glaringly obvious and awkward that I'm alone (and draw attention to the circumstances around that), so I feel kind of stuck! Have you been to weddings where the bride is walking by herself? Did you think anything of it?

I'm walking myself! I have a good relationship with both parents but I just liked the symbolism of walking myself. I don't think people will think twice about it.

I wouldn't think anything of it! I also like the look of a bride walking herself down the aisle.

Just pick a slightly faster song so that you can walk faster lol Smiley winking Nothing weird about it and it's only 1-2 minutes of the whole day that you have to be without your FH by your side Smiley heart

There is nothing weird about it and it is becoming more common. I walked down the aisle alone. I saw it as a symbolic gesture of walking down the aisle as an independent woman confident in my choice of partner.

It's definitely becoming more and more common, because a lot of women don't like the idea of being "given away" since they make their own choices. People won't think it's awkward, they'll think you are a strong, independent woman!

My husband's sister had her dog walk her down the aisle. My brother-in-law's wife walked down the aisle by herself. My brother's wife had her two brothers walk her down the aisle, but she is close to both of them and she is very shy so she wanted someone to give her away. Her father was supposed to, but he told her last minute he wouldn't be attending which broke her heart. Everyone had an opinion on who should walk each girl down the aisle, but it was ultimately their decision to make. I didn't think any of these options looked weird.

I like the idea of walking down by yourself, like PPs have said, it symbolizes your independence and your personal choice of who you are marrying (instead of being "given away").

I don't think it would look awkward as you think. There's nothing wrong with walking yourself. You're an independent woman and you can walk alone or with someone - it truly is your choice!
