Vista Print postcards vs invitations.

FutureMrsB (Aussie Bride!), on September 25, 2011 at 8:22 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

So I am going to print my engagement party invitations via vista print. I have ordered quite a few things off there, including their postcards. I haven't ordered any invitations before, so I was wondering what people recommend to use? I can't order the sample kit, because that is only for US residents. I know the invitations are more expensive, because they usually only have 10 for free or a certain percentage off (I have a voucher for 30%) while postcards are regularly 100 for free. I probably need about 60. However, I did buy a living social voucher recently which gave me $70 worth of vista print credit (I paid $15) which doesn't cover shipping Smiley sad

Anyway, what is the quality of the invitations like? I know there are a few options like linen, matt, and glossy - which one is better? Is it worth the extra money to buy invitations rather than postcards?

I know I should have just ordered 10 free invites with my last order (which I placed on FRIDAY) but that would have been intelligent

I really like vista prints. The linen finish gives it a texture and a makes its seem more expensive. I'm adding a little glitter and a bubble bee to each invite. A friend of mine also used vista prints and she didn't add anything to hers and they were still great.

If you had to choose one, which one would you choose. I haven't seen the option to upgrade postcards to linen, only glossy or matte - perhaps thats not available outside of the US.

I have used Vista print for just about everything that has writing on it for my wedding. I got the invitations just plain and they look great. I've been getting great feedback on how nice the invites look. Here is a website that another WW bride set up to help you with some ideas. http://vistaprint-goddess.weebly.com/sample-email.html don't be afraid to try new designs or search for a theme rather than wedding. I got my engagement announcements, STDs, invites, made up a welcome letter for bag for OOTers, wedding schedule on free business cards, the whole nine yards and for a lot cheaper then any other website. Browse around and I'm sure everyone on here will tell you how awesome VP is!

I would recommend against using postcards for wedding invitations. This is because the personal information contained in a wedding invitation can prove to be quite useful for identity thieves and other criminals. You wouldn't want your home getting robbed of all those glorious gifts while you are on your honeymoon in the off-chance that one of your postcards is viewed by the wrong person.

If you do, I would suggest enclosing them in an envelope anyway, for security reasons. That being said -- Vistaprint is not the only affordable option. There are many invitation consultants right here on WW who could assist you, and provide you with the information and samples you need to make an informed decision.

    so did Audra E.

Shellie D. also loves her linen finish

to save money, I suggest just doing the matte postcards for the rsvp.

I have used Vista Print as well for a double sided card invitation and LOVE them. When I received them, I couldn't have been happier! I bought a matching blue marker at Staples that went really well and when I went to the post office to buy my stamps, I was thrilled to find the LOVE stamps came in new design that matched the colors of the invite!

Miss Martha, the VPG site is actually mine; I'm a TK bride. I stumbled upon WW doing a Google search, I didn't realize how well passed around my site was over here. I'm so glad so many of you have found my site helpful! Feel free to contact me through the contact form, or page me on TK's DIY board. Smiley smile

As for the invitations, I haven't actually held a linen one, so I can't speak to its being better, but I can say that I've done invitations in the regular matte finish, and was completely thrilled with them.

Woohoo Jena - great to have you here! So you recommend the invitations over the postcards?

I have purchased both and I think the only difference is the size of the paper....The invitations are much bigger than the postcards. I know that you can order bigger post cards but it might not be 100 for free deal....not sure thought.

I ordered regular invitations, matte post cards and glossy postcards

Hmmm @His Rib - thanks! I might order the 100 free postcards, buy some envelopes (either the plain ones via vistaprint or some nice ones from a stationery shop), and spent my voucher amount on t-shirts, caps, and totes for the bridal party.

ADD: Or maybe I will get the 100 free postcards and the 10 free invitations and compare the quality when I get them, and if the invitations are really worth it, then pay the extra for them.

For an engagement party invite, I think you would be ok with the Matte finish invite.

If it was a wedding invitation, it sounds like the linen is the way to go.

even just the 100 free postcards with the matte finish upgrade would work for an engagement party

OR... Jena R's link also gives you 50 free large postcards, they are the same size as an invite.

Why won't Vistaprint ship you a kit? Can you offer to pay for the shipping since you are out of country?

I'm going with Vistaprint Postcards for SaveTheDates and RSVPs. I'm going with "exclusively weddings" for invitations. Once you sign up with EW, they send you email coupons all the time too.

PS. Large postcards require different stamps. I went with postcards to save on postage.

@Meghan, the kit isn't available on my country's vista print site Smiley sad It's a bit rude, I think....

I have bought the postcards before and was pretty happy with them (except I printed them for advice cards for our guestbook and made the side they write on the glossy side, so I had to order new ones...).

I think postcards would be totally fine for an Eparty, as long as you put them in envelopes. The invites and the postcards are both Premium 80-lb. card stock. The small flat invite is the same size as the postcard, but they also come in 4x8 and 6x9 (which would be more expensive to mail).

Conversely, have you seen the Groupon for VP? I'm REALLY excited about it, because it's the best deal I've seen. $17 gets you $70. There's a flat 30% off, and free shipping if you spend $25 past the voucher amount. http://www.groupon.com/deals/vistaprint-slc?utm_campaign=UserReferral&utm_medium=email&utm_source=uu10881457

Mrs. B to Be--was going to send you a PM, but you're locked. :-(

I ordered a bunch of crap from VP today. My STDs are glossy post cards. I thought that was fine for those. What I did for invites was a folded note card. Printed inside and out. I will put a ribbon across the front and order matching envelopes from a paper company whose name eludes me at the moment, sorry. That way, I can have inner and outer envelopes, and room inside for my RSVP cards. I only got 10 invites, cuz they were free today, so I thought why not get a preview to see how they really look. They didn't have our paper choice in an invite. That's why I had to build my own, so to speak. PM me if you would like to see the designs. --Julie

As a heads up, with the right email, they're ALWAYS free, so you should never feel pressured to buy *today* as the emails VERY rarely expire (regardless of what it says at the bottom of the email).

And Julie calling you Mrs. B to be made me smile, because I ordered a (free) XL magnet with some E-pictures on it, and wrote "Mr. & Mrs. B to be" on the bottom Smiley smile And my getting ready sweatshirt says "The New Mrs. B" (which I find to be more useful than one that says 'bride' - I'll be married one year next Friday, and I still wear it).

@ Jena or Hayley, I'm having a vistaprint issue. Usually I can order several free stuff off one or two emails, and combine them together in one purchase - now it's not letting me Smiley sad if this a glitch or is this the usual rule and I have somehow been getting away with it?

@Julie PMing you now. It sucks that people can't PM me because I have a private profile. But I have to keep it private due to my secret squirell job... hehe
