Virtual Marriage License in ny

Perla, on July 17, 2020 at 4:27 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 4

Hi!

I have a virtual appointment with the City Clerk at the end of the month and wanted to confirm that I will be married on that date. I had to postpone the wedding ceremony to next year, but wanted to keep the date of our original wedding (which is the same day as the City Clerk appointment).

Has anyone else been married virtually recently, do I need to wait 24 hrs in order to officially get married?

HELP!!

Most places have a waiting period. My friends recently got married and they had to get their license virtually, but they still had to wait the required time period by the state they live in.

Not all states require a waiting period, but it looks like NY does. However, on their website it looks like you may be able to apply for a waiver for the 24 hour rule, but I didn't look into the criteria.

Hi Perla! Is the appointment for a wedding service or for your marriage license? I'd check the city clerk's website about waiting periods to see what the official info says!

    Hello Perla,

I am debating whether to have a virtual or in person appointment - what questions did they ask in the virtual appointment and how do they verify you’re in the state? Thanks in advance!
