Videography Song Choice

Matstie, on October 22, 2022 at 12:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
My husband and I are from the US and we had our elopement in Indonesia. The videographer sent over the video and it’s amazing! But when I listened a little closer to the lyrics and googled the song (The Warmth by Koda).. part of the video has the lyrics “I cannot trust you if you keep stepping on my back” and “there is nothing for me here”. I’m not sure if it’s a language barrier or the videographer didn’t really listen to the lyrics.. I know he probably worked hard on the video and we do love it, but the song choice.. ahhhh! What now?

Does the video contain your vows or other things people are saying -- while that song is added in? Or, more like this -- Is this music added during a collage of still pictures?

Can you re-request the video without that song? If it is added in during editing, it can be easily redone with a different song. Anyone with video editing tools (even free software versions) can remove audio and mix new audio to the video.

It also seems like the song he chose zooms in/transitions to the beat of the song. Posted this on Reddit as well and some of the videographers said he might have to start from scratch 😖

Oh. too much creativity in it. It sort of depends if the new song maybe just meandered so that the image changes did not clash with a strong beat. And the whole video could be slowed down if that helps move away from a certain beat.

Do you have all the pictures that the videographer worked with? Will the videographer redo it for a reasonable price?

    good luck.

I should ask if it can be redone.. there is no talking in the video, it’s basically a music video, which is what we wanted. But I did notice that the song he chose zooms in/transitions to the beat of the song with the different video clips.

I thought I wrote this post! I also recently got my video back from Bali. I did change the music myself. Born in Indonesia, yes they have language barrier. You can asked them to edit the song. It shouldn’t be hard, and I doubt they refuse.

Let me know if you need my help. Mine put American country music, even though I already told them I want to pick the song myself 😅

The problem could happen in the States too since we can easily miss the lyrics on a song that has a great melody.

If we do a video, I think we will make sure to approve the song before they make the video.

    Basically this was his response

“To change the song means to do the editing again....
This is 70% of the work of the entire video, including the filming process …
Is it so critical for you these 2 phrases??? It 's just that this track has been added to other videos , to other guys , and you are the first to pay attention to it”

I would think he should appreciate the realization that the song is not the best one to use for a wedding video. Also, does he not have greater flexibility than to use same song for everyone?

It seems like he made a template for the timing of pictures and then just replaces the pictures with the next wedding's images.

I'm honestly surprised they would choose a song with lyrics prior to checking in with you. I know that there is a certain level of creative freedom allowed for artists in the editing process, but a song with lyrics seems like such a personal choice. There are lots of popular songs that I would hate my wedding video to be put to because I dont like the lyrics or the song itself.

Especially that song...its not about love it's about ending one's own life. I understand a language barrier but that's a really big blunder.

This is my thought too. And why a lot of videographers will either let their clients pick the songs or just set it to something instrumental.

Personally, this would be something I'd make a fuss over. I'm sure you paid a lot of money for the video, and it's your memories of an incredibly important life event.
