Videographer...how to decide?!

Sarah, on April 8, 2020 at 4:19 AM Posted in Planning 0 14
This month’s wedding task is researching a videographer and this is so stressful! I’ve gone to sites and every video looks the same to me. Any advice on what to look for or decide? I’m a lost duck!tenor.gif

Where are you located or where is your wedding?

Are you looking for a more cinematic video? Something moody? Or are you just looking at a simple video documenting the day?
I chose my videographers based on the vibe I was going for.

Thank you for the reply! The wedding is in Rancho Cucamonga. I know I don’t want simple documentation but it seems that blended cinematic vibe is common? They are seem the same!

    Oh okay so in SoCal!

Yeah, I feel everyone is going a lot more dramatic with videos which worked out for me since that’s what I wanted! I honestly looked at the quality of their videos and how seamless their transitions were (some tend to look really choppy).

What’s your budget? I went with Jay + Mack in San Diego. I knew I wanted them the moment I looked through their work. However, I looked at so maaaany videographers that I could send you more options. Smiley smile

If you need another recommendation for So Cal, I'm really excited about my videographer. He's a friend of a friend, but a professional videographer who has lots of experience in the corporate world and is expanding his portfolio into weddings (meaning I have a full contract and everything so that everyone's protected). He's extremely passionate about what he does, which made me excited about getting a videographer (we weren't at first as it wasn't in budget for us). We've already chatted a few times about ideas he has and I think with everyone quarantined, he's even more excited about shooting than he was before (if that's even possible!). We ultimately ended up hiring him because his rates were extremely affordable for a professional videographer and because the work I've seen him do is really well done. I would be happy to share his website if you're looking for another recommendation.

Thank you for the video example! I didn’t even think about transitions. I found Kyle J Lemburg and he’s 1999 for 8 hours I think that’s good?

Does he have a second shooter with him? You’ll want a second shooter to capture moments like when you’re walking down the aisle— one shooter on you walking down and one on your fiancé to capture his reaction. Smiley smile

How long is your wedding? Do you want them there for getting ready footage? I did 10 hours so my videographers were there from 10am - 8pm. My wedding ended at 9pm and our afterparty after 1am. I didn’t think it was necessary to have them there until the very end (who wants to watch a bunch of people sweating on the dancefloor anyway?). However, if you want him to capture everything, you may have to add on hours.
I think $1999 is a great price especially if you like their work! How long would the video be? Do you get the raw video as well?
Ours was around $7k. It included a teaser video, the video I put in my last comment, raw video of the day, and a separate day when they filmed for a couple of hours with us (golfing and wine tasting with our wedding party and guests the day the before).

I would figure my wedding would be 8 hours like most are. What are the benefits of raw video? Their video is about 8 to 15 mins which I would think is good?

I think wedding lengths all depend on different factors. I got ready in a different location than my venue and had first looks. So my videographers had to start filming way before my 3:30pm ceremony time (which was pushed 45 minute later to 4:15pm due to rain).

Raw video will give you EVERYTHING. so you’ll see all the moments that didn’t make your video. So it’ll have your full ceremony (usually unedited), toasts, first dance, your crazy uncle on the dance floor... lol

I haven’t had my wedding yet (July), but cannot wait to see what he produces. Such a nice guy and really wants you to be thrilled with his product. His name is Kyle Lemburg. Tell him Nicole sent you. Last time I saw his packages, I think the most expensive one was around $1500; however, this was last year that I was looking at them, so I don’t know if he’s raised his prices at all. www.kylejlemburg.com
